FEL Removal

I posted this in the Massey Ferguson section also, I own a MF 1428v w/ 1464 loader. Following the instructions to remove the FEL I've nearly destroyed the front end twice. I've removed the 2 pins that hold the fel on, it says to raise the bucket and the fel will ift off the mounting brackets, this does'nt happen, instead the bucket goes up to about 1 to 2 feet then it lifts off the brackets and comes crashing down. It seems like there should be something wewighing down the bucket for it to work as the instructions state, but that does'nt sound right. If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it, before I cause $damage$ to my little investment.

I've never seen the Massey, but on my NH you must have the tractor in neutral and the parking brake off - make sure the stand is down on the loader. When you do this, instead of lifting the loader it will push the tractor backwards.

The MF does not have a stand, as the loader lowers the front mount lowers and becomes a stand

Chris: the bucket should not come crashing down. I guess you know this. On my tractor to remove the bucket, I raise the bucket to about 3 feet. I curl the bucket back and get off the tractor to remove the pins on each side. Then get back on the tractor and lower the entire unit to the ground slowly. The arms should then pull down and away from the hinges they are attached to. Then back away from the bucket slowly. Remember to place the bucket on a level surface to make it easier to reattach.

Definitely not like my NH setup where the rear mount makes the stand, but it looks like the trick would be to raise it up off the mounts and slowly back out while lowering again to kick out your front stands and maybe play around with the curl of the bucket to keep the balance of the loader at the same time.

I have a different loader and tractor, but if it works the same way as on my Kioti, the secret is not to lift the bucket, but to curl it upward. As I curl the bucket upward, the loader pivots on the support legs like a see-saw - the front drops and the rear lifts off the mounting pins.

Steve, I see you have the same tractor I do. How do you find that Kioti tiller? Does it do all you need, and easy to hookup and disconnect?
As for the loader disconnect, it sure seems like it would be difficult without stands on the front as the KL120 Kioti loader has. I looked at Chris's pics, and I can't see how it would pivot without stands. John

Hi John -

Looks like I spoke too soon. I assumed most loaders worked the same (I know, never assume...........). After looking at the MF website I see it is a completely different mounting system. I see now my method would not work.

Their website showed a series of three pictures of removing the FEL. The pictures are very small, but it looks like after removing the side pins, the loader might have to be raised while the tractor is slowly backed up. Maybe that would enable the loader arms to pivot down to the ground instead of raising the FEL????? Perhaps putting the FEL control in the float position and backing up the tractor would work??? I found the pictures by going to the homepage for the 1400 series tractors, then clicking on the link for Loaders.

About my tiller: The Kioti tiller works very well. I have used it to grind up dirt clods after back-filling around our house, prep a garden, and till part of the yard for planting a temporary lawn. The tractor never seems to show any major load, even when I tilled the yard areas with 4" of grass/weeds. The only time I hear the engine slow down at all is when I lower the tiller into the ground.
