I understand what you are saying but as long as the moldboard or the cutting edge is spring loaded this is a moot point. The same concept applies whether or not it's mounted to FEL arms or to the frame of the tractor. For a "pusher" this won't really apply.

We can talk about this again when the blade it lying under the front wheels. I probably take over precautions. I have been asked by many on here for pics of my set-up design. So there must be something to it.

Like most things, there is a calculated risk.

I do agree with Chris, that if the blade can trip, once the angle of attack changes, it will ride up over most anything with the loader in float, just like it would if lifted via chain. Even with the extra weight of the FEL.

Now, all the protection in the world wont help you if you hit a stump or curb at full speed. I have personally seen dump truck plows ripped off by manholes.

I am in the planning phase of mounting a blade in place of my bucket and am wrestling with if/how I want it to trip. I will be starting a thread on my build next week and this will be one of my first topics.

On a Fisher plow only the cutting edge (4-5") trips. That works fine for ice ridges and pavement ripples (and manholes) but wouldn't help raise/float the loader arms. I'm in the camp with those who advocate a floating blade that pivots. If you're worried about the stress on the loader, make the blade shorter. You'll still move snow faster and grumble less.

I've contemplated each and every kind of tripping method out there and mentioned by all of you. I basically decided to build a pusher with no sides to start. Its turning out to cost a little more then I anticipated:2cents:. Got some stuff welded up today, should get the moldboard early this week. I'll get more pics up here soon.

If you mean the U shaped hooks for the quick attach.... I bought them from JD. They are around $15 cdn each. The Quick attach Pins were also bought from JD for about $20 cdn each. What are you planning on building?
