Driving a very large lag bolt into what's left of the existing post and trying to pull it out that way would probably be the easiest for sure.

Secondly drilling a hole into what's left of the wood post and driving some type of pipe or rebar into it and then drilling the bottom of the new post to slide over would be second easiest.

Third dig much larger hole remove everything replace with sauna tube and backfill. Renting A jackhammer or Power equipment would make this option much easier.

Last option abandon hole & fill-in put a new post on one or both sides of problem Hole.
I installed fencing professionally for years this is the routes I would consider.

I've used a spud bar to break the wood up before with success. Once you get a decent size chunk out the rest is easier.

I'd vote for a big lag bolt, attached to a chain, attached to the NH's 3 pt. That should yank anything out.

I would most likely drill many holes in the post, and then I think I would try the brickets to burn the old post out.

if it was not in cement, I would just dig a hole along side of it, and then pry the old post in to the new hole and lift it out, (just did a gate post yesterday this way),

Newbury,

agree. To really weaken the bond she could use a electric drill with a old paddle bit and drill the dirt surrounding the concrete. Using a few drill extensions, she could go way down. I would skip the water! suction is the worst

Back before I had a tractor I'd use a farmjack and often had to "weaken" around the post. Since I got tractors I first try just pulling them out with chain and my FEL. Pull very gradually because fixing a FEL could be expensive.

But the rear lift at the 3pt on an 80HP New Holland should be about 5,000 lbs. So it should be able to lift (not necessarily pull from the dirt) a cubic yard of concrete.
/edit
And instead of a paddle bit use an auger designed for planting flower bulbs :)

This would be the option I would select,,,
sell the horses, install the sauna tub,, enjoy life!!

Actually, my under 150 pound son-in-law JUST purchased an electric jackhammer off of Amazon!! (FREE SHIPPING!!:cool2: )
It cost under $300.

He took out a 4 foot by 5 foot by 6-8 inch thick concrete slab in an afternoon.

Sledge hammers, and a backhoe could not do a thing.
We both have used that jack hammer at least four times since that slab,, removing rocks,, etc.
The machine is GREAT!!

Sauna tub. Good one.

I hope he meant "Sonotube".

I'd drill in the biggest lag bolt I could find and try to pull it out with that. If that doesn't work I'd drill as many holes as possible and soak it in diesel ( NOT GASOLINE ) and attempt to burn it out. In comparison to some other methods diesel fuel is cheap so don't be stingy. The first burning likely won't remove it all, but you could break it up the best you can and burn again. Give the fuel some time to soak in the wood before lighting it.
