Make something like this out of 1/4". Leave a few small drain notches where the socket meets the plate so water doesn't freeze in there. Or just slather everything with tar, undercoating, or elastomeric roof coating once installed.

Is that a commercially available product?

And she hasn't said... anything in about 3 days since she asked the question. 3 days of helpful suggestions without acknowledgement.

Now I can understand having to look after a large, working property by yourself (and regular TBN contributors love giving suggestions) but not responding is beginning to verge on rudeness.

It was the OP's second post,,,
the first one was FIVE YEARS ago,,, it was a question,,, and never responded to the answers to that one,,,

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/207227-indoor-arena-footing-grading.html

with similar answers to the first question,,,

I guess we have to wait until 2022 for another post??

So, OP,, how did the building turn out that was started in 2011??

Agree 100% WagTail!

And, in her first post she mentions her husband and "our property". I wonder if she was this rude to him as well and that's why he's not around to help her get that post out? :confused2: (OK, OK - I'll admit, that comment is rude of me! But, you gotta wonder.)

I did have to laugh at those who suggest PlentyOfFish or EHarmony as a solution to her problems.

There are also these things. Simpson Strong Tie E-Z mender FPBM44E. Hammer them into the footing on each side of the post then bolt them to the post.
I've used them once. It was OK I guess and it's probably the quickest way to fix a rotted off post with needing to dig it out. But as a general rule I just don't like putting any kind of wood below ground level.
