I keep hearing all these claims of numbers of tractors sold... but really haven't seen any concrete evidence...? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

But I have seen stockholder reports... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Deere & Co.- 2002 - $13.95 BILLION Worldwide

CNH Division - 2002- $10.x BILLION Worldwide

...either of those numbers don't look too shabby to me... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JMIII:

I'd like about 1/2 percent of that, tax free of course. I could pay off my farm debt. There'd be enough left over for a nice trip to Austrailia for a month or 2. In the winter, naturally.

If California was anything too judge by, the Deeres AG's easily outsell everyone by a long shot by using VIT (visual identifying technique). Its very apparent as one travels the valley freeways where the green is.

Maybe that's why I can't seem to get the "extra sweep pickup for my NH round baler, I've been waiting over 6 weeks for it.

...what the unit sales reports say ...

What we really need, is to see "each" of the Big Three "unit sales report" from the same month and compare notes... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Has to be interesting, to say the least... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

John,

I downloaded both the Deere Co & CNH 2002 annual reports and here are some concrete numbers.

--------------------Deere-----CNH
Equipment sales --- 11,703 ... 9,331
Construction Sales - 2,199 ... 2,926
Agricultural Sales -- 6,738 ... 6,405
Consumer Sales ---- 2,712 ... N/A
U.S Sales --------- 8,203 ... 3,772
Non-U.S. Sales ---- 3,500 ... 5,559
(All numbers are in millions of dollars)

Neither finanacial statement claimed a particular number of units sold. If you subtract Home Depot factor (Consumer sales: lawn tractors, push mowers, chainsaws, & weed trimmers) from the equation the sales move toward CNH's advantage. The exact numbers are unavailable since CNH doesn't have a consumer sales breakout, but I assume the amount to be nearly trivial.

Trying to read the financial pages of each of the companies it does seem like John Deere does sell the most. I also found that all of the compaines have had their financial struggles. If you take the history over the last ten years they all have had their troubles including John Deere losing 65 million in the year 2001. They did make a big come back in the year 2002 by making some major changes in product and operations. Oh yes Case New Holland did their share of losing money also including the last few years with straight loses.

As a coporation I have always like John Deere because they haven't been bought out like the others have. When a manufacture has been bought out by another corporation one of two things happen, they either go for quality or they try and take an existing product and make cuts to it to make up the difference. But I guess John Deere made major changes in both product and overhead to make up for their losses also. All in all I guess it goes back to buying what you feel comfortable with. Even though any of them have financial trouble I firmly believe they will find ways out of it.

Still glad I bought my New Holland /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
