Fiber cement siding

P.S. forgot to mention paint. I won't install anything that requires paint. That includes all outside surfaces, trim, etc. :)

Smart Siding is OSB with a glazed finish to look like wood grain. I like it for painted porch ceilings, but that's about it. It's better then bare plywood like T1-11, but nowhere close to Hardie.

That settles it Eddie. Thanks for your advice. :)

What do you think of Polymer?

We're putting Hardie on our house now. Plain sheets under the deck and beadboard sheets on the wrap around porch ceiling. Planks on the siding. We had some sort of cheap pressed together sawdust siding that started coming apart where it got wet, and raw plywood where we're putting sheets. The Hardie's fire resistance is a big plus.

I put it on my cabin for a couple of reasons...fire and bugs. It has held up really well. Keep in mind this cabin can see snow loads up to 15 feet high. I would not see any reason to not use it, just understand how to instal it and it should see lots of years of use...

Put Hardi siding on the ends of a shed I built 12ish years ago. It should have painted it but it had a primer on it and it is/was a temporary shed. The Hardi does get wet and it has been just ok. I suspect it can dry out since both sides of the material are not enclosed. I would use it again since it has worked good so far.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan
