Filters...do you or don't you...??

Re: Filters...do you or don\'t you...??

Wix are good filters.
Napa and Carquest are also Wix.
I think I get about $900 worth of filters a month at work and have never had one problem yet.
We have had some Cat engine failures, sent to Cat for warranty issues with Wix filters.
Cat is very picky on warranty issues.
Hope I made the right point and didn't stir the water to muck.

Re: Filters...do you or don\'t you...??

I don't think you stirred it. I just ordered some from the URL posted above and saved a nice chunk of change over what my bota dealer wants to charge me. As a matter of fact I got oil/transaxle filters for 3 changes for what he wanted for one.

THANKS!

Have a good one,
Dave

Re: Filters...do you or don\'t you...??

Henro: When I got my old B8200, the first thing I did was order, online, a complete assortment of filters from a Kubota dealer in Tenn who advertised on the internet- got 2 or 3 of each, and since the shipping was maybe $6, no tax, it didn't really factor in. His price was real good, so I am fixed, no questions about which one is okay, what is Fram-ish.

Tbone,
Thanks for the WIX tip. It's not that I'm agains Kubota it's simply easier for me to order these filters online.

Re: Filters...do you or don\'t you...??

The after market filters sound great but I would not get too comfortable with just any old filter. My father inlaw nearly burnt up a B7100 with a major brand filter. His old friend and automotive parts dealer bugged him to try a new filter line for small tractors several years ago and after he put it on the engine started running hot. He checked everything from the radiator to the exhaust system. He finally changed the oil filter he had just put on with a new Kubota filter and it eleminated the problem. He dug around in the trash and found the old Kubota filter and compared the inter workings with the other than Kubota brand filter. Everything was the same except a small check flapper in the Kubota filter was not there on the other filter. Come to find out that little check valve is supposed to keep oil in the pump for start up and quick lubrication of the engine when its cold. OOOOPS.
He felt it took some years away on his tractor engine and he
was pissed about that until the day he passed away. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Just a passing story on the subject.

Re: Filters...do you or don\'t you...??

The thing that got me thinking about changing to Wix was prices I got for filters that last time I was at the dealer.

Granted one was a mistake in their computer. This was the price of the engine oil filter. It jumped from $4.75 to $14.01. The corrected price is $8.20...still a big jump.

I like to change oil and filter every 50 hours. At any rate...this 250 hour oil change will be with a Kubota filter that I have, and the 300 hour hydraulic oil/filter change will be with Kubota filters that I bought this week [engine may be wix at that time].

The Wix web site is nice, but my confidence in it is not too high, as I found two engine oil filters listed for my B2910. Well actually, I think the wrong one is listed for the B2910, this is Wix part number 51064. I did a search of TBN archives and found someone here [forgot who] tried this filter and did not use it when they saw it was physically smaller than the one on the tractor.

It looks like the Wix 51344 is the right engine oil filter. It is listed on the wix site for the B2710 and while I did not check the Kubota filter demensions, it seems to be about the same size.

Bottom line is I would not mind using Wix filters on my B2910, but I certainly will not just wing it. I would say I trust the quality of the Wix product, but I am uncertain they can recommend the right filter for my tractor. I need 100% certainty that I am putting the right one on, or it won't go on.

Anyone happen to be using Wix filters on their B27/2910 and have the numbers handy?
