Final buying help

Thanks for the additional comment, Dave. If the tractor has good power for the size of implement, it would take a lot to bog it down; if it's on the underpowered side, a lot of clutching while turned around to look backwards at the snowblower would be tiring for an old galoot like me!

Yeah, it's not ideal. I was surprised when I got my 6' blower three years ago how much power they can take. If I get into a stretch of heavy snow that is as deep or deeper than the blower housing is tall, I have to give it time to "chew" on it.

Since we are retired, I don't go out during a storm to stay up with a big snow, which 90% of the time seem to end at about 2am. It's so much more enjoyable to wait until the storm is passed, the wind usually settles down, and the sun is out.

hiker88,

We always have to prioritize and sometimes compromise. I believe your choice of larger tractor with a gear transmission is the better choice for YOUR use.

That is the amazing thing about today's tractors, they can do a multitude of jobs very well. Short of buying a dedicated tractor with a dedicated implement for just one job, we will always have this compromise that we have to make.
