Yesterday and last night we got about 6 to 8 inches of light powder snow. I got my 422 out this morning the temperature was about 12 degrees (tractor is kept in a unheated garage) . It started right up on the second try, left it warm up for a few minutes and off I went. Our driveway is about 100 yards long gravel on a downhill slope from the garage. I just have the small bucket to remove snow. I had no problems clearing the drive, a path to my outside wood burner and also made a path up over the hill on one of our tram roads where I take my dog for walks about one half mile. It took me less than an hour . It would probably take much less if I had the snow blade . I just put the bucket in float position with the tip elevated about 1 inch. Works real good if the snow is not too deep or wet.

oh man, I never thought I'd say "Lucky you" for snow, but I'd sure like to try my 422 out on some snow. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sunday evening we were blessed with almost two feet of snow with drifts much higher. Took me four hours and a session with the Bylaw enforcer before I was finished. The driveway has parts that are 20 degrees slope that always present a traction problem. The street running past the house is at 15 degrees slope.

After finishing my driveway went around the corner and cleaned the Town Engineers driveway. Got some answere's on where and how to leave the snow. Seems I'd been doing everything the right way.

Several years ago this same Bylaw officer sat in his truck and crooked his finger at me to come over and talk to him about snow I was removing. Don't think he likes me since that time. He walked up the driveway this time and again left a frustrated man.

We had about 2 inches. About a half inch drift in front of the garage door. I used the kitchen broom to do the walks while the PT warmed up. Then I made three passes and the drive was done. Had to make a fourth pass to get back to the garage. Took about 4 minutes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But seriously, I miss the days of big snow. We just don't get them anymore. I think in 12 years my kids maybe had three or four snow days. I'd like them to see at least one good blizzard once in their early years, when it is fun and exciting to go out in snow that is over your head. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

What is a bylaw officer? A city official? Why did he bother you?

Snow is not the issue up here but cold weather is, The blade is a real plus, much quicker then a bucket. I am curious as to your tree farm, Is it a xmas tree, timber operation?

I'm with y'all wishin' for a good snow. Not that I'd like to go back to my northern MN childhood days with the grain scoop and 75 feet of driveway, but it seems a shame now that I have this cool PT not to be able to scoop some white stuff. The last time we had more than an inch was about 3 years ago (before I had the Pt) and even then I had to get out there at midnight with my Toro & front blade because most of it would be melted by morning .

A Bylaw officer is one who enforces town regulations. In my case I have to move snow out to the street before I can take it to the dumping spot. It's all a matter of slope, traction and time.

This fellow seems to have job security problems along with operational knowledge.

But there are times I'm not the most pleasant person to talk down to.

Ahhh! What we call a Code Enforcement Officer. I have butted heads with ours frequently because he is caught between a lawsuit between my neighbors, myself, and our city attorneys over who really owns my land. Not a job you'd want to have as your pretty much going to be universally hated in the neighborhood /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My tree farm is just a forest of whatever trees grow there naturally. Mostly poplar, maple, oak, beech and black cherry.

speaking of tree farms, I live in the middle of a 127 acre xmas tree farm(we don't own the farm, just our 8 acres)...I use both my Farmall/belly mower and the PT/4' mower to keep the grass and weeds low on the access paths for more enjoyable walks around the place........and it's snowing here as I type! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

i just finished plowing, this plow works great since i added the pucks on the back of the blade last year. i even do my walks now, works good backwards just tilt it,and it takes the snow right off right down to the concrete. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Today, 1/19/5, we finally got our first snowfall for this Winter! About 1/2 inch, but with the Lug Tires on my PT-425, I was able to plow right through it!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

PS: TV reports say that "most area schools will be closed tomorrow"!!!!

1/2 inch....not enough for us to even think about plowing here....just got 4" last night and now they are calling for 8+ inches Saturday into Sunday, it's always pretty during a snowfall and right after...but then I wish it would just melt away! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We had a few inches yesterday. I figured last night was as good as any to get the 12 year old daughter out to plow snow with the PT425. She did a good job, got most of the snow off and also edged about 5' of the driveway for us /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

MR...good for you...can never start them too young!! Now don't forget to hand her the owners manual for the snow shovel to get those hard to plow places! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh, I didn't forget that. I showed her how to set the parking brake, choke the engine, get it started, test the brakes by trying to move back and forth. Then we got off to the side paying particular attention to the pedals and went and swept off the sidewalks and steps with broom and shovel. 5 minutes of warm up time for the PT worked out just right. Then off she went on the PT. I kept her away from the road and the van on the drive. But she did OK. Kind of timid about shoving the joystick past down to the float position, though. She stays in the down area too long and the front tires start coming up. She screams and lets go with the wheels a foot off the ground. I laugh hard. We went slow throttle and I walked along beside her. She had a good time and so did I. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
