Hello everyone,

Finally retired and got around to buying an acreage. Worked for many years as a heavy duty mechanic, taught apprentices far a decade, became a chair of trades then the associate dean. So been around equipment for most of my life. Now have to figure out this farming thing!

Welcome !!!! Also Congrats on both getting acreage and retirement. Lots can be learned here, and as a mechanic I'm sure you have knowledge to share.

Welcome Kozzy, :welcome:
I'm happy for you, can hardly wait for retirement myself.
Desire is the main thing, you'll figure the rest out easy enough. Lots of help here.

Welcome. Calgary is as close to Provost as I have ever been. We like our Neighbors to the North, beautiful country you have up there.

Always enjoy your photos and your view.
A view here is pine trees and an occasional live oak tree.

Welcome, from an ex Calgarian!

I always wanted a ranch in the foothills Southwest of Calgary in my youth, but here I am in Toronto. I did, however manage to pick up a 25 acre spread north of Toronto, near Algonquin Park. Fabulous lakes up there!

Welcome. I spent about 18 months in Calgary then another 4 years in Fort McMurray working on the Syncrude UE-1 project from 2000 to 2005. I really enjoyed living in Canada.
As for farming, what do you envision doing? Ranching or tilling the soil?
How many acres do you have? All this is relative to what kind of advice folks will give you. Like Air biscuit said the best way to make a million dollars farming is to start with 2+ million.

Thanks for the greeting everyone, I look forward to being part of the group. Currently am stripping all the old plumbing out of the house, when we turned on the water there were more leaks than there were taps!

Currently I live in Fort McMurray, home of the oils sands, Provost is my retirement destination once my wile decides to retire as well. So I am keeping busy going down to the farm fixing things up and trying to figure out what I am going to need to raise hops. Figure 10 acres is to small for most regualr crops so am looking at things like market gardening, raising hops and other high value, limited space type crops.
