Finally joining Spencer and Henro

Well, today didn't go as planned. Our 18' 2x8's didn't show up till 3pm at the lumber yard and we didn't pick them up and get them home till 5:30. So for today all we did was set the pearlings and beam on the left side wall as well as put the facia boards on the section of roof we had plywooded. The 2- 2x8 rafters are all we did tonight other then lay out the beam for the rafter spacing. Decided to call it early and just work on it tomorrow if the weather permits.

You guys don't mess around! Your barn is going up fast. The one pic reminded me of an old fashioned barn raising. It's nice to see people still willing to help a friend/neighbor.

I have a question about the ground in the barn. It looks like there is quite a slope to it. Are you going to bring in fill to level this out or is it an optical illusion on the photos?

No illusion. The ground really does slope that much. We are going to tile the ground before we do any fill. As it sits now we will fill the 24' section to roughly where the old barn use to sit. Then the 16' section will drop 2' and we will level that room off there. It is the best we could come up with unless we tore down a few trees, bought out a neighbor and just kept building the 24' way /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Right down rt. 20

We were fortunate to have all the help when we set the trusses. We are constantly helping out our friends and they are always begging us to let them help us when we need something. We don't like asking for help as we don't want people to think we use them if we can't help them when they need help (work forces us to put off a lot of other things which is why this barn took 17 years to start building).

I must tell you...that one picture where you have all those people there...well... when I saw that I felt like I was looking at a picture of Times Square in NYC on New Year's Eve!!!

There were a few more guys out side of the picture as well as the guy who stole my camera to take the pic /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It was a fun day, plenty of friends to help and we all had a fun time (except for me as my back and knees started killing me from being scrunched down on top of that wall for a couple hours /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

We only worked till 3 today then went and picked up some more materials so we can plywood the rest of the roof and loft tomorrow. Today we set all the lower rafters and joist for the loft floor.

Don't know? It will be over $10k when finished but I have not tallied it up to see where things stand right now. Just the roofing alone will cost $2k, around $1,200 in plywood, well, it is going to be a lot. When we are done and tally up the total I will post it.

I am building a 16X24 "tractor haus" and have just suffered major sticker shock on T-111. Say
e x p e n s i v e.
So your costs look to be very good for the size.

I am hoping to keep it under 2k.

Since my timeing and effort are w/e only. I shall post the finished pics in another thread. That way you all can make fun of them, since it is nothing like Robert, Spnce and Henro are/have doing/done.

I look forward to seeing your pictures. I enjoy seeing other peoples projects no matter what size and shape they are.

I have never been a fan of T-111 (too high maintenance). Have you priced out metal or possibly a cheaper backing for your walls and vinyl side it (might cost a few dollars more but will be worry free and you won't have to paint it when you are done). What price did you get on the T-111?
