Finally replaced old truck

I think the reason the long beds aren't as abundant is because the way the government fuel economy standards apply to a manufacturer's entire fleet. When you can limit the weight of the number one selling vehicle in the world and steer folk to a short box model, you don't have to sell as many Fiesta and CMax to offset the lesser MPG ratings of the largest and heaviest F150 models.

Just got back from a round trip to Nashville TN in 24 hrs. All interstate driving totaling about 340 miles at 77 mph and averaged 18.1 MPG. Supercrew 3.73 2wd.

S219 is correct. I installed a boost gauge and watching that has improved my MPG even on the interstate. I think the cruise control isn't very logical in hilly terrain and find myself cancelling it off often. I'll drive 80 mph on the down slopes and sluff off to 75 uphill and reset cruise. Monitoring traffic and easing off early when approaching congestion and maneuvering through with gentle thrusts saves a lot of fuel. The ecoboost has a fine breakpoint when it goes from decent to a drastic change to poor and it is easily seen with the boost gauge.

Ford only builds what is ordered so I wouldn't see how they could bank on that. I may be wrong but I think they are rated for the same MPGS as well.

I saw the same thing on my last turbo vehicle when watching the boost gauge. At about 75mph, the turbo would boost all the time and MPG suffered, so I learned to keep it a few mph lower whenever possible. It was a pretty drastic impact on MPG when crossing over that boost hair-trigger.

On the ride back, my wife got 19.9 MPG. So the mileage is improving with the break in.

That is great mileage. Watch the instant MPG bar, it helps. I found that with the huge fuel tank these trucks have once you get down to 1/2 tank it is hard to pull the mileage up much. My truck is getting the mileage it did on day one, it never improved.
