TH, Do you use that rear blade for snow removal? If so.. how well does it work? Are there things you can do with the rear that you can't with the front? I am still deciding on FEL only, front blade, rear blade or blower for snow removal. I have 2 gravel/grass driveways totalling 225ft, and a 1/3 mile long gravel road I might help keep clear.

If you use a rear blade get a tall one. Landpride makes several heights ie rb2572 which translates into 25" inchches tall, 6ft wide. I have used rear blades on both previous tractors and with wet snow in particular when moving forward the snow will get caught on the central support member. Also, you are limited on how much snow you can drive through before you lose traction. I maintain 1100 feet of gravel driveway. 500 feet is level and 600 feet is a steep climb. 200 feet of that steep climb is at a 20 degree slope. I really liked the rearblade. When the gravel wasn't frozen it would not dig in like the fisher plow on my plow truck. Having the front loader free came in handy but like everything there are trade offs.

Why have both?? Through the years the plow truck has proven to be really brittle. It must have been a "monday" truck.

It all depends on the type of snow. This last storm was 9-1/2 inches of light fluffy dry snow and at 2800rpms (540 pto rpms), the snow goes about 30 feet out at a max height of about 8-10ft. As I go through real packed heavy stuff like the snowbanks, it only goes about 10-15ft out and about 6-8ft high.

Here is a short video of my snowblower in action. It doesn't show how far the stuff goes though, I need to make a new one.

Snowblowing

So how cold it when it snowed? I was a little afraid that you were going to snowblow your camera. :D

Ha! Ha! Don't worry, I had the camera zoomed in a little so it would get a close shot and not be in harm's way. I don't remember how cold it was outside, but inside the cab it was about 70-80 degrees F. :D

When the snow got deep, I raised the front blade about 6" off the ground and dropped the rear all the way down. It worked "ok" but the snow would still tend to build up and want to lift the rear tires.

ToadHill I notice you have your rearblade tilted forward considerably. Is that so it does dig in as much? Also, how do you like that plow mounted out front? Been thinking about modifying one like that myself. I see plenty of old Fishers by the roadside for cheap. I currently use my FEL and a rear blade for the white stuff.

Willie: The rear blade normally sits level, it's just that way in the picture because I hadn't adjusted the toplink yet. The glade in front of the bucket works well I burned 2 holes in the bucket to slide the horns of the plow thru and then pin them. The blade is then hooked to the bucket hook with a chain.

With that setup, you can raise the bucket and plow as you get to the bank and pile the snow up to about 7 ft high without having to dump it out of the bucket.

Thanks for the info, I too would like to see some close ups of that plow setup.............. looking to steal(borrow) some ideas.

I have a personal use plow(SnowBear) off my GMC Yukon I kept when I traded. I drilled two 3/4'' holes in my cutting edge to bolt the mount in,took the winch that SnowBear used to elevate the plow, off the push arms and used a ratcheting chain binder to secure the lift arm to the center bucket hook.Works really well unless the snow is heavy, wet stuff. The blade doesn't have enough weight to keep it planted on the asphalt.I'm still cogitating a snow blower but am having trouble getting past the price:eek:
