"Thought eddies comment was useful myself. Fair amount of wisdom in that."

I agree, but even if I didn't think it was, I wouldn't slam him for it. Of all the posters on here, he's one who always seems willing to go out of his way to try to help others.

I too, concur.

And seeing as Eddie is a big boy who can take care of himself, and who has in this case taken the high road, I'll try the right thing (for once) and do the same.:D

I've got a 6' KingKutter finish mower.

I've learned that scalping is more a function of mower width than of cutting height (Yeah, I know, you can scalp with anything if you set it low enough... but that's not what we're talking about here...;)). A 6' mower will be more apt to scalp on uneven ground than a 5' or a 4' mower, because the wheels are farther apart, and it just physically can't follow the contours of the ground as well as a narrower mower. Especially when mowing parallel to a ridge or the crest of a hill. I've found with my KK mower, that if you raise the front of the mower with the 3ph just to where the lift arms are carrying the front of the mower and not the wheels, the tendency to scalp on ridges and crests is cut by probably 75%, without making a noticeable difference in cutting height. Now, I don't know if that technique will work on other FM's, since the KK has a "trailing" center blade, where I think most FM's have a "leading" center blade. Just something to consider.
