Well, if you are going to get a brush hog, It won't really matter if the grass is 3' high or 5' high. Happy hunting on the brush hog.

I may have missed it in an earlier reply, but why don't you just walk the area before you mow it? It may take a little time, but you'd be pretty sure of getting any really big stuff out of there.

Of course, if you're really wanting to buy a brush hog, then you absolutely should not walk the area because you might step in a hole and hurt yourself! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

As a one time or once a year session. Maybe renting a brush hog might be an option till you get around to purchasing one.

Gary,
Sounds like the guy you bought the mower from made the same mistake i did!! I mowed for about 10 minutes on a Grass Hopper 721-D, and i "instantly" realized that i had wasted all the money i had spent on all the tractors i bought over the years to mow with!! Once you mow with a GH you will throw away your tractor and mower!! The GH rides so much better, does a heck of a lot better job, and all in about 1/2 the mowing time!!!
When it's time to mow grass, my Kubota stays parked!!

I agree with you Robert but it's hard to justify that $8-10k for a lawnmower. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Actually, this guys reason for going to the Grasshopper was that last year he'd given his old riding mower (which I'm sure was immaculate) to one of his kids who needed one. He thought he'd be doing his wife a favor by getting her out of the lawn care business at home (she'd been the one to use the rider) by buying a finish mower for his tractor.

As it turned out, she didn't want to be out of the lawn care business there and was unhappy about NOT getting to mow anymore. That's why he bought a new rider for her (the Grasshopper) this spring and why he was getting rid of the finish mower. To quote him, "Around here, if Momma's not happy, ain't nobody happy."/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
