I'm trying to decide which mower to buy.

Here's the poop:

Woods RD7200 I can buy for $1,900. that doesn't include the front roller or rear chains. It has a 3 yr gearbox warranty and an 8-gauge deck.

The Bush Hog RDTH72 I can buy for $1,825 With front roller and chains included. It has a 2 yr gearbox warranty and a 7-Gauge Deck.

I'm leaning toward the BH and it's heavier deck.

Anybody have any experience/suggestions on these two mowers?

Thanks in advance!!

I forgot to mention:

The Woods weighs 603lbs and has a blade speed of 18,000 fpm

The Bush Hog weighs 588lbs, blade speed of 15,613 fpm

Thanks.....

Of the two, I would prefer the Woods for its better, larger oil tunnel that bathes the bearing with more oil flow. The Woods weighs more because it has an end-to-end sled on it and a heavier gear box.

I would prefer the higher blade tip speed as well.
I think it's well worth the $75 difference.

Amos--I used a Woods RD 72 for six years. It gave a very nice even cut without streaking. It was built well BUT the gear box leaked after the first year. One dealer told me that's why he stopped selling them. I have also been told that the problem has been corrected and if that's the case I would not hesitate to buy one.

Thanks John!

It turns out I was mistaken: The Woods for that price was an RD72, not an RDTH72 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Now that I think about it, they didn't have an RDTH72, but had a PRD72 (or something close to that). The PRD was a slightly better mower, but not for the $2,400 they wanted for it, in my opinion. It had springs on the casters, and a round "bead" welded around the front. The deck guage was the same, 8 guage.

The thing that impressed me about the Bush Hog, was that the front of the deck extended, underneath, rather than just having a bar tack-welded to the front. Overall, it seemed like a heavy-duty piece of machinery.

My older, RM550 Woods is built like the BH (front deck material extends underneath).

I looked at the Land Pride 72", and it seemed like a decent mower, just not quite in the class of the Woods or BH, and the price that dealer was asking was about the same as Woods and BH.

I read in another post where the BH seems to take more HP to drive than most mowers of same size. I have no problem with HP, as I have a Ford 860 with 48 HP. (And I'm hoping that's not too much for any of these mowers if I take it easy.) IS IT?

What's a mother to do? I really don't need a new mower, but like many, I've got the buying Bug /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The 5' is too narrow for my Ford and a 6' would fit nicely outside the tires.

BTW - I checked out your handy-work on your pics - nice job on the clearing/cleanup!

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks all!
