Finish Mowing with a 2520?

Unless you bought the lock up kit for the 2520, you have to lock it up when using the 3 pt . I actually just use the 2" do able stick Velcro. Works pretty well. You still need to do that even if the mower is off, otherwise the arms will drag from the mower.

As for taking the mower off, I think it is relatively easy, especially on concrete. Putting back on isn't much of a challenge either, biggest problem I ever have is getting the front support on, but i have nothing but gravel to work from, so I have that headache.

As for mowing with the 2520, works good and sucks as bad as any other mower will if you have very wet ground.

As for mower deck widths, the 62d is a drive over. Can't remember if the 72" is or not.

It's not hard to remove or reinstall the mower on a 2520.

I don't do it often cuz I'm lazy, but it only takes about 3 minutes.

Mine raises and lowers with the 3-point hitch, but I think you can get an independent lift kit so that you can raise and lower it with the joystick and still keep the 3-point hitch free for other implements.

Personally, I've never used a rear mower, so I don't know how good of a job they do, but I don't think I'd want to deal with looking backwards all the time.

I've decided on a MMM, Now I just need to decide if its going to be 62 or 72 inches wide! The rear finish mower would drive me crazy after a while. I get a sore neck after a big day of flail mowing, so this would be the same issue.

I'm wondering how much the ground clearance gets reduced by the arms and additional brackets that are needed for the mow deck? (when the mow deck is removed properly). I'm just curious if I'll be getting hung up in the woods more, or if there isn't much of a clearance reduction.
Thanks guys!

If you take the mower off clearance problems shouldn't be a big deal. You'll have to just see for yourself. The mounts in the rear do hang a good bit down (maybe 2") and I noticed that mine are covered in mud right now. I usually end up buring the front axle before i even get to the rear tires.

Mud doesn't usually get me. I get hung up on logs, stumps, rocks, etc. I get stuck in mud with the R4's before I start dragging and I don't really go in mud often. I'm more afraid of banging the brackets on frozen logs and bending something important. I'm sure they are tough, but the thought of bending them makes me cringe!
Thanks for info!

I have a 2520 with R4's and the 62D as well so I'll throw in my $.02! I absolutely love the tractor and mid mower. The drive over deck is a genius idea and as said earlier, can be on or off in about 3 mins. Now the down sides in my opinion... When the ground is wet, it definitely leaves marks in the lawn, however as long as you change up your mowing pattern, I don't see it being an issue and you can't even tell a day or so later. The other thing that tends to irritate me is the lift arms. I come from a 2210 and I think John Deere did a great job with the lift arms on that tractor. On the 2520 though (I have the 3 pt hitch lift) they hang down and have a bar that runs between them. I can imagine how quickly I could damage that bar if I found a rock or stump! So unless I'm moving lawn debris or very light loader work, I always take them off when not in use. Unfortunately that completely defeats the purpose of the easy to mount/dismount deck, but I'd rather take the extra 5 mins than risk damaging the lift assembly.

Would I buy it all again?? Absolutely, as I said before, I love it! Although there are some little quirks :) Enjoy mowing with your 2520!

I always remove the lift assembly when not in use, very easy to do. I have also bent the bar while mowing. Don't really know when it happened, but I believe it was when I mow my ditch. There is one section where the slope is steep and I mow across the slope instead of down it and I my guess is the mower shifted to one side and bent the bar.

Priceless info guys! :) Thanks.
I figured the arms had to hang down some. I'm going to dealer tomorrow to get another quote on the 72 inch deck. I have one quote for around $4,000! yikes!

That's probably not too far off. The quote I have for the 62" is $3,000. Those mowers are pricey!

Since you have a 2520 with the 62 inch deck........ I'm curious how easy it is to trim around trees and other things in the yard? Is it easy to trim up close, or is the 62 too narrow and the rear tires hit the trees first (when turning of course).
I think I'm after the 72, but I'd still be open to a 62 for sure!
