Finish vs Rotary Mower

Exactly. That's what ours does and I've been surprised at how well is does follow the contour of the land/provide an even cut...even with fairly steep changes in the incline. One thing I've noticed though, on rough ground, the mower really takes a beating since it's riding on the ground on it's own weight...just sort of being dragged along by the tractor. So I wouldn't recommend a finish mower for really rough ground unless you buy a really sturdy unit.

If the ground is a little rough, I'd suggest a rear finish mower with two rear wheels and "check chains" holding up the front. That way, at least the front of the deck is getting the relatively smooth ride furnished by the tractor's large rear tires.

To sharpen the blades on the RFM I leave it attached to the tractor to stabilize it and use the 3 point to lift it. With the help of the hydraulic top link I can really raise the deck easily enough for clearance. I then use a piece of 6 X 6 to keep it from going anywhere. A air impact wrench makes changing the blades short work. I keep a set of sharpened blades hanging on the wall of the pole barn and an extra set of blade bolts just in case the head on one gets rounded in the process.

I have lots of thorns on our property so I had all four of the wheels on the RFM foam filled. Before that flat tires were a regular occurrence. The foamed tires still have give, afford a good cut, and I never worry about flats on the deck any longer.
