I finished my loader for my 30 year old Dayton (MTD 990) GT tractor. Here are some pictures.

I removed my hand control and added a foot control. Check out the foot brake as I had to add a "U" piece so I could clear my big foot. I will paint the bucket and add a guard for the pump. I want to add power steering so I will look for a used steering valve.

I tested out the pump when I worked in 90 deg. heat for 2 hours without the oil getting too hot. I moved a lot of dirt in the two hours. The bucket comes off and on very easily with the quick disconnect feature on the loader.

Good job! Steer ok with a full load?

Looks good! I'm envious of your ability.

Nice Job!
I have an old MTD 16hp and have often thought a FEL would be handy..

It does steer hard with a full load and you have to be moving to steer but it gets the job done.

That looks great blacksmith!! what are you using for ballast?

Having a loader makes me wonder what, if anything, would I have accomplished at my place if I was FEL-less!! It is the single most useful attachment, for me, on my tractor!!

(The backhoe is number two. For tools my chainsaws are third on the list, followed by the wood splitter.)

Yep, great job.

Some rear-ballast hanging off the back may help stability and that steering issue.

Thanks for thr pics, good job.

My tires weight 50# each plus 50# of wheel weight. If I need more ballast I plan on building this weighted platform. It is made from 6"sq. tubing filled with sand and adding 1/2" plates as needed. It will be attached on my 3ph. I have all the material all I need to do is weld it together.

I have an 1,100 lb hoe on rear, some times it feels like I could use more- that weight box sounds pretty good to me..:)

See if you can get punch press rounds for scrap price... that makes it about 4 times heavier than a sand fill.

Is it still working ok? Any problems?

sandman2234 ~~ I did have a problem with the tie rod bracket it broke off when I was hauling stone. I found out that the bracket was broken before because half of the crack was rusted. I welded it back together and it works fine. I do have a leak from one of the used lift cylinders. I thought that the seal was "OK" but under full pressure it is not. It is the front seal on the right hand cylinder. I do have more cylinders so I will rebuild one to replace it this winter. I'm having too much fun using it to stop and rebuild it at this time.

Blacksmith,
Where did you get the steel hydraulic lines made?

hogi ~~ The tubing I used was scrap pieces from work. It is made with nickel so it will not rust and it is stronger than regular steel tubing. I bent the angles myself and either welded or used "Swagelok" fittings or made my own. I used 3/8 tubing because it was free. I bought my hoses and some fittings from surpluscenter.com or northerntool.com.
