Ok here is a thread for Finishing mowers. So whats the scoop on them? What do you look for when purchasing one? What do you gauge the level of quality by? Here are a few points I have been considering while researching these mowers but since I do not own one there may be aspects that I am overlooking.
<ul type="square"> [*]Side vs Rear discharge [*]Deck thinkness [*]Gear housing [*]Wheel type [*]3pt Attachment strength [*]Cutting width [/list]

Shane, I have a 72" rear discharge mower and the things I like about it are:
1. It cuts and lays the clippings down evenly (no clumping)
2. You can mow close with both sides of the mower (no discharge chute protruding)

Some things you may want to look in to.
1. Some mowers (look into King Kutter-I'm not suggesting one) they have a floating top link which allows the mower to follow uneven groung better and the rigid top link.
2. Make sure the belts, bearings, and blades are available locally and of a standard size. (special order parts will make you break out the push mower)

If you are considering a finish mower be sure and look at Landpride. They are well built and do a great job. The "wind tunnel" design does well in heavy grass. I have a 5' that has mowed many lawns as well as many weed lots, and the only thing that has ever been replaced are the blades, the belt (twice in over 15 years) and the tires.
They are made in Kansas, so I'm not sure they are available throughout the country.
