Ditto.

All of our door mount fire extinguishers on our mack trucks come with verticle mounts from the factory.. and they pass DOT inspection. Our shop yard also passes routine insurance and OSHA inspections every couple years. All of our extinguishers are verticle mount.

I see the same in the restaurants and other comercial buildings.. like kmart / wallmart, etc.. verticle mount Fire extinguishers.. etc.

If there was a really huge problem with verticle mounting.. seems that they wouldn't pass inspections.

Might even be a throw back from 'old days'.. like about storing batteries on concrete.. etc.

Its just like tapping a can of skoal the more you tap the can the more it packs. Now the tractor does have more side to side but settling of the powder is gonna happen. But at least when I start the nex big brush fire in so cal I can at least say I had an extinguisher /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My mount is the same as MrJoe, simply tye wrapped to the back of the ROPS. I guess if packing is a real issue, I would rather have to shake the extinguisher alittle as opposed to watching my tractor burn for lack of one. All the farm tractors I have been in had them mounted in the upright position. They sure beat a gallon milk jug of water (personal experience) for putting out a fire. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As the former maintenace tech for all the extinguishers on our volunteer fire dept. I can say without doubt that extinguishers that have ridden on trucks for a long time tend to discharge less powder than units that sit stationary. We resolved this problem by taking all extinguishers and turning them upside down and tapping them a few times with a rubber hammer every 3 months. this greatly improved the amount of powder discharged when used. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
