I have been looking for a fire extinguisher bracket for a tractor. Does anyone have any they like or don't like? Can someone point in the right direction? I worry about the brackets with the single metal strap that tightens down, I feel it could pop loose. What about Velcro?

I bought my extinguisher at a local box store. It came with a plastic mounting bracket with plastic hold down strap. Its been on my tractor for 5 years now. Never had a problem with it coming off. It is mounted inside the cab on the lower left dash panel and has been kicked quite a few time with my big foot. If I recall it was less than $40. I know home depot sells metal brackets with single strap separate for a few size ext's.

I thought about high quality nylon wire ties. Ones that won't degrade, strong enough to hold the extinuisher but weak enough that you can rip them off.

Why not just tie down the strap that’s already in them so it can’t come undone? You also want to find a cap to cover the end so dirt dobbers won’t plug it up. IMG_1550.JPG

Yeah, I found most of my extuinguishers would have been useless! I unplugged them but forgot about getting caps.

You guys just reminded me to buy one and install it. I just never think about it but I have to do that before it's to late..

Good idea, getting a fire extinguisher for the tractor. I thought about getting a CO2 extinguisher in case I have a diesel runoff to spray into the air intake. But never did yet.

I wonder if spraying the cold CO2 in there would bust something. Mind you, you can't even get at the intake on most tractors and almost any of the engine on many.

Fire extinguishers are mounted to tractors and other heavy equipment all the time. Unfortunately (especially if you are looking at a hardware store cheapo) the bracket may cost more than the extinguisher.
Try googling “heavy duty mount for fire extinguisher”. A standard size is a 2A10BC extinguisher. So a search for that size should yield good results. Typically the brackets you want would be “L” shaped capturing the bottom and up the side. However their are choices like this too-

Or you can trust the extinguisher company and use their mount and add a zip tie if you are worried-
Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing.

Same here, although mine are from the local Auto-parts shop or Hardware shop. The one on the tractor is mounted on the ROPS with the bracket that came with it using screw-on circular clamps... I cushioned the 'contact points' with foam neoprene from a 'stubbie holder' (koosie?) to act as an anti-vibration buffer.

A fire extinguisher was the first 'add-on' to my 4105 six years ago and it's never budged.

I’ve never seen it done or tried either. It would either work by displacing the O2 or by freezing material over the intake blocking all air. I’d love to give it a try. If we have a training and we happen to have a CO extinguisher (we don’t have many anymore), I’ll try it and report back!

Typically they have a fuel shut off for that issue.

Apparently is not running away on diesel. That would be easy to stop. It's running on crankcae oil.

I got 10# heavy steel vehicle brackets on amazon or eBay. About $20. Attached using three 2” square U-bolts to front canopy posts.
Fire extinguishers are products you hope you never have to use. You only have seconds to stop a small fire from getting uncontrollable. Carry one on vehicles, RV, boat and tractors. Have never needed for myself but helped at two different situations from getting much worse.

Or you can make one, this one is from a piece of purlin left over from building a barn.

My, what a shiny GREEN tractor. Nice!

That was shortly after I bought it. It's now a little over 9 years old and has faded to a nicer non-reflective finish.

Usually ones made for Jeeps are pretty good at hanging on tight. I picked up one with 3 velcro straps around the fire extinguisher and it had 2 large velcro straps to mount on the Jeep roll cage.

Regardless of how you mount it, make sure you shake EVERY fire extinguisher you own periodically. If the compound settles in the bottom, it can get rock hard.

Something most never think about when stocking tools on machines or in sheds.

Probably need to pick a couple up, one for the Blue Djinn and one for the shed where everything including the fuel barrel is stored.

I too had difficulty finding the best mount and ended up going with a nylon version that straps on. Has worked extremely well for me and was easy to remove from my old tractor to my new.
