This weekend I had a chance to mount some fire extinguishers onto my tractor. They are in a very handy place.
I drilled and tapped some 1/4-20 holes for the mounting brackets on each side. When doing road work I have my son walk along the tractor with a shovel in case of a spark, and he will have easy access to the extinguishers from either side or if I accidentally knock one off, he can get it for me.

Ther will be 3 pictures total.

Very good idea. As a matter of fact I am just now thinking I should go and buy one and mount it. I dont have insurance on mine, and its juts like windshield wpers on a car, you never think of replacing them until it rains

I never even thought of a fire Extinguisher..!!! I think I'll pick up a 2 1/2 pounder and mount it this weekend.

When the road guy pushed it in the first time it was July and about 100°. All the grass was dry as a bone and he made us walk along side the D9 Cat Dozer to watch for any sparks. He had extinguishers mounted to his machine, that's where I got the idea from.
He informed me that if you start a fire and the government has to come put it out, they will charge you for the expense if it's your fault. Sure wouldn't want a bill from those aircraft that dump fire retardant. I thought putting out a spark right away was a much better idea.

A fire ext is a good idea.. i carry one on all my tractors.. as well as a 1st aid kit. Even if I never need it.. I may come across someone who does.

I've been in these dry brushy foothills for almost 30 years and take the fire hazard seriously ... one of the few things I do take seriously /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I just plain stay out of the brush till moisture conditions make it safe. However, there are those times when being in or near the tall dry brush is unavoidable. For decades now, I have taken a piece of bulk spark arrestor screen, bought from local mower shop, and formed it over the end of the exhaust pipe and secured it with a hose clamp. I do this on my rider mower, ranch truck and tractor. It's a quick matter to put it on when needed and remove it the rest of the time.
Cheers!

Great safety idea! Thanks for the input.

I also waited for the first rains before reclaiming the turn-outs on my road. They are mandatory in case the fire truck or ambulance comes up the road. They grew over last year before I got the tractor. I'll push them clean at the end of Spring before they get dried up this coming year. My county ordinace requires me to have a turnout every 400' and my road is well over 1/2 mile long so I have about 7 or 8 of them.

Here's a picture of part of the road. It actually starts about 600' back by the pavement.
