How far away are your fire hydrands? I have one about 300' away from the main house and about 600' away from my rental house... PSI is about 180!

We don't have pressurized hydrants here. Everything is by draft. And those are few and far between.

I never have really measured it, but I think the fire hydrant across the street is about 150' from our house. We have what might be an interesting situation with our fire department. To start with, the fire department is a mix of paid fire fighters and paramedics and volunteers. It's call the "Lake Cities Fire Department" because we're on the northwest side of Lake Lewisville (a reservoir owned by the city of Dallas). And the Lake Cities Fire Department serves four separate "cities"; Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, Shady Shores, and Corinth. Each city had contributed to the budget each year, and it seems they have some discussions and disagreements each year as to which cities should pay how much.

So all that changed a week or two ago. The Lake Cities Fire Department is now a city department within the City of Corinth. The other three cities have contracted for fire and ambulance service from Corinth for 5 years. One fire station, located in Lake Dallas, remains the property of Lake Dallas and Corinth is leasing it for the 5 years. The fellow who has been the fire chief had already submitted his resignation to accept a job as an assistant fire chief in another town, so Corinth is now accepting applications for a fire chief.

I bought the real deal for the doggios to use as a pee station, but I'm the only one who ever actually used it as a watering spot....

We have one in our front yard which has never served any purpose except to stop drunk drivers. It is about 300 feet from the house and has the same 60 PSI water pressure as the house.

We're about 5.5 miles from the nearest hydrant, but only about 150 feet from a 1/2 acre 14' deep pond.

Same here. One just happens to be close.

About 4 miles. we've got ponds and rivers closer do they count.

Mornin DreaminGreen,
Well I sure hope they count, because if they dont all of rural America is in big trouble ! ;)

We started installing dry hydrants in our local ponds 20 years ago to save time over cutting the ice in the winter months, they are a big help along with the 3000 gallons we carry in our tanker !

I always felt that if you cant get a residential house fire out with the first 1000 gallons it was going to be a total loss, I still feel that way today ! ;)
