I never have really measured it, but I think the fire hydrant across the street is about 150' from our house. We have what might be an interesting situation with our fire department. To start with, the fire department is a mix of paid fire fighters and paramedics and volunteers. It's call the "Lake Cities Fire Department" because we're on the northwest side of Lake Lewisville (a reservoir owned by the city of Dallas). And the Lake Cities Fire Department serves four separate "cities"; Lake Dallas, Hickory Creek, Shady Shores, and Corinth. Each city had contributed to the budget each year, and it seems they have some discussions and disagreements each year as to which cities should pay how much.
So all that changed a week or two ago. The Lake Cities Fire Department is now a city department within the City of Corinth. The other three cities have contracted for fire and ambulance service from Corinth for 5 years. One fire station, located in Lake Dallas, remains the property of Lake Dallas and Corinth is leasing it for the 5 years. The fellow who has been the fire chief had already submitted his resignation to accept a job as an assistant fire chief in another town, so Corinth is now accepting applications for a fire chief.
