I don't have a rops on my yanny. But I have thought about the crossdraw shoulder holster. I typically have a beretta 92 or a taurus pt 92 or a 24/7 that I carry. I don't have two legged critters to worry about. We are so far from civilization that the only interaction we have have is ma nature and her critters.

I don't have anything against carrying a gun on your tractor( I have a bunch of them) but be careful. make sure you stop so you don't hit a bump and hit an unintentional target like your tractor or yourself.

I've only shot myself one time and a tractor wasn't involved:D

It might depend on where you live, if you carried on tractors or ATV's and such on your land. I work out beyond my house a lot on 155 acres. I'm here alone most days, and no law enforcement patrols ever venture around here that I've seen. If a big crazed dog came up to close to me, or a drug crazed idiot that was on the run from the law, maybe some thugs who murdered someone down the road and now are at my place, I guess I would be happy that a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt was riding along with me. I'll watch for rattlers too:)

A police car type mount for a shotgun or AR works excellent. The triggers are protected and a remote (hidden) button releases the firearm for action.
These can be purchased through places like "Galls".

The only problem is if you don't have an enclosed cab, the dust is going to play an issue in reliability of the firearm.

I pocket carry a .38 snubby most of the time...however, the seatbelt would impede quick access.

This holster from El Paso Saddlery looks pretty interesting. It's an "across the chest" holster. Make sure you click the "View Larger Image" link to see the entire rig.

Personally, I want the firearm on my person or within reach at all times. Pretty easy to do with a handgun, maybe not as easy with a rifle. I bring this point up since, twice this week, I passed by a farm (driving home from work) and saw an ATV with a rifle (in a rack) parked on the field just off the road. The owner was between 100-150 yards away from the ATV. IMO, being that far away from the firearm negates any use of it...also invites theft.

Fobus makes their kydex holsters to fit a variety of makes/models of handguns, and they also offer a stationary mount for the holsters. It would be quite simple to mount it somewhere handy on the tractor. Snap the handgun in when you get on, then snap it out and take it with you when you leave. I've considered riveting a nylon holster to my fender for carrying a handgun for shooting snakes and rats. I seldom bush hog without seeing a number of rats/field mice. A friend of mine has a leather saddle scabbard that he ties onto his loader mount in the fall in which he carries his .22 magnum for crows, rats, etc.
