Fired Road contractor. Build it myself?

Ya, ya, nice to get an update on your road, but the more interesting question is ....

"I have two 18 year olds, a 14 year old, a wild willed wife, a 20 year old and a 27 year old....one grand child "

Which is the hardest to handle? :stirthepot:

I mounded the dirt and gravel over the culverts about 3-4", sort of like a speedbump and let traffic, water, and time help to insure that the culvert was well compacted. Left it over the winter and spring, and just recently graded over it, smoothing it to the road level. I'm glad I did, because on the first culvert I installed, there was almost no settling whatsoever. However, by the 3rd, I think my shoulders were getting tired, because there was about 2 of 4" settling on the last installation. I think I just couldn't tamp that much by the end...

It's the wife. no contest. more of a wrangling than handling. I just have to guide her in a direction....and it doesn't always work.

I am already seeing that this is the way to approach it. even though I wore myself out tamping it down, the ground has settled in. I will require more gravel to even it out.

Preparing a proper culvert base takes a lot of work. More than one person can reasonably do.

In March I put a 31 foot camper up at the top of the road. In April I applied for my building permit. It was just approved Tuesday. I have spent the wait time builder NG a new electric deer fence. 7 feet tall 7 strands hot. And then I started working on an old hunting shack that was rotten. Stripped it down to its bones and added to both sides to make it a storage shed. My excavator has been broken down and I have been waiting on a mechanic to make the trip up here. The know they are busy but I swear you could rely on a hookers promise more than these guys. It gets old having to call people up over and over to see when they are going to show up.

We have had some good rain sand the road as did fine. Th last month was bone dry, then Monday it rained over 2 inches. That actually did a little damage up near the switchback at the top. I will have to smooth it some more. We also widened the turn st the top quite a bit. I will try to dig up some pictures tomorrow morning.
