It is helping Eddie, but the stove draws air, along with the produced humidity. Some humidity is getting about the room, but a humidifier, inexpensive one from walmart, or such store will make a greater effect. Placing a humidifier also in the bedroom where you sleep will help keep your nose, and air passages from drying out while you sleep. This will inturn allow you to get a good nights rest, and not awake with a dry throat, or worst a symptomatic sore throat. You think you have a sore throat upon arising , but as the day progresses, the symptoms disapate, and go away. This was due to your air passages being dried out overnight. A bit alarming, because no one wants to be sick with a sore throat, or feel that they are comming down with a cold, or the flu. It's winter, so the air is usually drier that summer. Can you throttle your wood stove back? I've found that with mine once the chill is knocked off, that I can run it much lower, thereby reducing the amount of air being dried, and drawn from the outside, which is usually drier still. Sorry to be instructing you how to spend your money on a health related issue. I should leave that up to Obamacare.....:) I also love the pictures of your piggy, and truly enjoy reading about him.

How much water are you burning through ? You may have to experiment with the position of the pot on the stove top. It should be at a rolling boil, if not, move it around until you find the hottest spot. The cold weather is going to be drying things out to begin with and one does have to drink more fluids under those circumstances.

I got a pot out of my drawer and added water to it. I have it at 78 degrees in here and I'm still thirsty all the time. I added it to the stove this morning, so I'm wondering if it will just take a little bit of time to work?

Thanks,
Eddie

Did you get yourself one of those magnetic thermometers for stoves and chimneys yet? I throttle our stove back to just above the temperature where creosote forms on days when it is above 20 outside. When it gets too hot inside, it just puts me to sleep.

Keep an eye on the water and refill the pot as it evaporates. Also, you might want to get an inexpensive hygrometer to keep track of the actual humidity in your house.

We have 3 pots on the stove, and put 4-6 gallons a day into the air.

Plus have humidifier on the central heating system. I run it in fan only mode to move the air through the house. Its also got a humidifier that claims 15 gal a day. Based on my water bill, and the sound the system makes when humidifying, it runs nearly constantly.

So 20 gal a day in my house to keep it comfortable.

I have only the 1 pot for about 1400 sqft and when I come in from outside my glasses fog up instantly.. Takes about 3 minutes to clear. The air in our home has more humidity now than it ever did with central heating. The humidifier on the furnace had a huge problem with becoming calcified from our hard water and consequently only worked properly for a short while before needing servicing...

You do have to get the water boiling though. Just getting it warm is not going to do a whole lot.

Note that whatever pot you use is going to get ruined as all the minerals etc in the water get left on the sides of the pot. So don't use one you really like ;)

The pot that I used is one that my ex left behind for me. I've never used it to cook in, since I don't cook. If it's not frozen and something I can put in the microwave, I'm not gonna eat it. I'm lazy like that. LOL

I've had the pot with water in it going for a few days now and have added a fair amount of water to it every day. I don't notice any improvement in how thirsty I am. This has only been a concern with the freezing temps and snow days that have me spending all day indoors. I'm going to look into a humidifyer, but don't know if I want to even mess with it, or jsut deal with a few days of dry air and accept it as part of winter.

I haven't put a thermometer on my pipe. I have one in my room and I guage how much wood, and when to add more wood to the fire on the what the temp is in the room. I like it around 78. If it gets to 80, then I crack the kitchen window and let it cool off. If I get reall uncomfortable, I just open the door for a few minutes and it cools right off. I've only done this a few times, and that's mostly when I'm heating up the room and really load up the stove with wood to get it going faster.

It's been a fun game to heat my house with the wood stove. Its in the 50's today and all the snow from Friday is melted. It was melting all day yesterday. I'm going to start painting my wood shed today and then I can start stacking my firewood next to my house.

Here is what it looked like on Friday with the snow.

I don't believe it's a medical issue. I don't feel dehydrated when I'm not burning the fire, and I don't think I go to the bathroom any more then most. In fact, I wonder about those I know who seem to go all the time, and I only go a few times a day. Thank you, I'll keep it in mind. But I think it's just that the heat of the fired dries out my air so much that it makes me feel dry in my mouth and throat. I've had girls over who have noticed the same thing. Wine really helps!!! LOL

I didn't realize that I never put any pics of my wood shed after it was done. I'll have to get a better one, but heres one with my Mule in it.

Eddie
