Firewood Storage as Art

I've never been too interested in do anything like that with my firewood, but on the subject of firewood storage, I've seen some woodsheds that were works of art. Better construction than some places I've lived in.

I like to think I build a pretty good firewood shed. 6x6 oak corner post mortise/tenon into 6x6 treated skids, for example. They hold 4 cords each, built 4 of them. Located at various points around our 70ac wood lot.

Mine's not art, but I like looking at it. This is the first one I built in 2009. I've working on #8 right now.

It's 8' high X 10' diameter.

I get a kick out of building those beehive woodpiles. Just finished my third one, which holds about two cords until Fall 2017 when we will bring it up to the house. There is a German website for them: holzmiete.de. ("Holz hausen" is some strange American translation: "Holzhausen" is literally "Wooden houses.").

The Shakers built them along with Scandinavians, Eastern Europeans and Germans. The Amish build cones of wood around standing trees, with the pieces stacked vertically.

I think if I had one that nice I would be hesitant to burn any of the wood

You have to balance that with the fun of knocking it over with your tractor!

I'd venture to say that the first image is not a stack of firewood. More likely-- judging by the length and the surrounding trees-- pulpwood.

I have seen several TBN threads in which members have posted photos of their firewood storage methods. However, I haven't seen anything like the care these folks take in storing firewood:2 People Who Turned Piling Logs Into An Art Form.
