Firewood versus Pellets

   / Firewood versus Pellets #61
I have a pellet stove and love it :)

after burning wood for about 40 years the change 3 years ago was well received
like most things there are good ones and then there are not so good ones
same with pellet stoves and wood stoves (for every good one I can show you 3 bad ones)

pellet stoves are a bit noisy but it you run a wood burner with a fan it's hardly any different
might cost more to use a pellet stove when you get your wood for free, but when you get the pellets delivered to your garage door it just doesn't get any better than that
I find I hardly have any mess to deal with (hardly any ash compared to wood)
My wife and daughter can start it (push the on button for heat)
I feel it's much safer (I had a chimney fire with my wood burner)
and I don't have to feed it but once a day on high which I never use (highest I run is medium and full hopper will run about 48 hrs)

I don't get where people say the pellet stoves don't give off radiant heat
mine has a glass window that will torch the skin on your feet if you try to stand in front of it
the sides of mine toward the front will get to about 650 deg F on medium

I'm glad I switched as cutting, splitting, moving wood just isn't on my to do list anymore

Mine is on a UPS with 3 12 volt batteries on the trickle charger
that gives me enough time to run back to the barn and get my 10000 watt gen set and plug it in to my main electrical panel
then my whole house is up and running like nothing ever happend
