Mitch - thanks again for taking the time to describe this bag in detail, and adding your pics.

I ordered a couple of them tonight - that would not have happened if I was just looking at the commerical listings, even though I'm a Smittybilt fan !

Dave, you mentioned needing a case that would stand up to abuse. I would recommend getting one of the smaller pelican cases. When I started back mountain biking I put together my own FA kit because I wasn't really happy with the options immediately available to me and used one of pelican's micro-cases. They come in a couple handy sizes so you can pick one to suit your needs.

Panik - would you happen to know if those small Pelican cases are made on-shore, or off-shore ? I checked their site, and poked around a bit on Amazon, but could not find Country of Origin info. Lack of info leads me to suspect Off-shore....

I found a similar Plano case at Walmart today - thick polycarbonate, and sealed with a thick silicone like O ring, for about $12 Canadian. Seemed like a reasonable water tight case, Made in China though. Was next to the Fishing Tackle boxes, if anybody is looking....

I like Pelican, and don't mind a bit of a premium price for their's, if it is made in North America.

MTM Case guard survivor dry boxes seem to be fairly tough, not too expensive, the 9x6x3" is$7.29 from Cheaper than Dirt. Shipping is not cheap, but I think I will like the box, for a small box. May be a sub for pelican, and they are marked US made.

Thanks cm, I hadn't seen MTM before.

With shipping, seems to be about $22 USD from 'Dirt, vs. $33 Can. from Amazon.ca. I've seen worse, shipping in Canada tends to be brutal.

Not sure if there was a system glitch ?

Catching up on my email, I found this recent notification from PhysAssist, related to this thread: Thanks for the 411 Phys !

"As far as small bandages, I find that the only ones with staying power are the Bandaid name brand sport strips.

For larger wounds or ones that bleed a lot, you can't beat Quick-Clot dressings, which we used in interventional radiology sometimes for arterial bleeds (although you also HAVE to use strong direct pressure.).

The only antibacterial or antiseptics we recommend are Chlorhexidine solution which can be mixed with potable water to clean wounds, otherwise plain soap and water are best.

(NO peroxide, alcohol, betadine or even, mercurachrome because they all cause further tissue damage and impair healing)

and for wound dressing- products containing not more than 10% tea tree oil (which can even kill MRSA).

NO neosporin or other OTC antibiotics, which can actually make the risk of complications and wound infection higher, because they inhibit non-pathogenic healthy skin bacteria, but no longer kill any of the disease-causing bacteria."

Nope, the system glitch is in my brain, in not noticing the thread dates, but for the life of me, I don't recall how I got to it, unless it was a referenced link in the preparing for disaster thread I was also reading.

I hope it's useful to you.

Good material in this thread, so I had dropped this link into the recent disaster thread since it related well.

Thanks for your latest comments.

Scary, but that's the way this country has drifted. Some of us objected years ago when we started shifting our military suppliers overseas, yet $ signs drowned out the threats. It's just been a slippery slope ever since... Yet now I'm straying into "friendly politics", an oxymoron which I avoid.

Most of us here are already fans of having a stocked first-aid kit, so that link I just posted is somewhat Preaching to the Choir......

I have some appreciation of the extent Canadian pharma production has been off-shored. I shoudn't have been too surprised, but have to admit to being startled by the description of the USA saline shortage in that article......

When you think of how often the phrase "In the interest of National Security" gets trotted out in movies or TV shows that have some elaborate plot-line, it is sobering to realize how much of an impact a shortage of something as simple as saline solution would have....
