Because it lasted twice as long as iron and was more conducive to make curves and bends.

Same reason lead solder in food cans was still used into the 1990's... nobody put two and two together until then.

Probably more likely because it would have cost money to retool.

Yeah. These EV tractors may be like a fancy BMW or Audi. Wonderful for the first owner/leasor. A subsequent owner can be facing rediculous cost, for example $5k to replace the starter because its inside the bellhousing. Leasing makes a LOT more sense. Especially for version 1.0 of anything.

One of the beauties of leasing... you don't own the problem after warranty expires. With new technology and the extreme advances, you'd be hard pressed to keep up with things in production environment and service it yourself. The electronics and software are just to complicated for most folks, let alone the cost of purchasing or renting the diagnostic equipment.

It's all been figured into the cost of the machine and it's expected lifetime. Who's gonna purchase a 10 year old computer for their house? Who's gonna purchase a 10 year old tractor that's basically a computer now? What's going to happen to 10 year old off-lease tractors? Constant upgrades maybe.

I guess the subscription model will go universal. You will pay every month for everything and never own anything. No point in taking care of anything and making it last. Boy I'm old......
