Hi Scotty,

That's just a start. I now have the entire collection here with Park's Seed numbers so you can actually go to Parkseed.com and look them up by item number so people here can see exactly what we have to plant.

I tried to alphabetize these.... probably not exact but maybe close enough. I also attached a text file in notepad if you would like to print them.

Jim:

You should have at least two heritage beefsteak tomatoe plants. One slice covers more than a slice of bread. I had one tomatoe that was good for 8 slices of bread.

How about some hot peppers?

Garlic ? potatoes? turnips? Assparagus?

Now remember our climate and soil conditions will be different so my comments may resemble some cold air.

Thanks Jim,
I did print it off, and Egon, yes one slice of beefsteak tomato on white with Hellmans Real is just the best /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Red Potatoes is the choice here because they have a great taste and produce very well.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( heritage beefsteak tomatoe?)</font> Well unfortunately I don't have any of these /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I haven't found any as of now. I am willing to plant them as soon as I get them... if there are any out there. The money is low for buying more seed since I am trying to get the irrigation system installed ASAP.

So far we do not have the seed for the above. Any one that would like to donate seed would be greatly appreciated. Or tomato plants for the heritage beefsteak tomato would be great as well. That tomato sounds delicious and like it would go farther than the other tomatoes we have now. That means the produce from them would feed more people.

The seed we have now was a donation from Park's Seed and I did not get to choose what they sent. I was glad to get what they sent and I will make the best of what we have and try to feed as many people as I can with it. I know the irrigation system will help the plants produce much more because I can control the watering system. Even if we get into a drought. So far our area is about 7 inches behind in rainfall for the year.

Well... my preference is Duke's but still makes me hungry. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's strange that a tomato is considered a fruit and we all eat it as a veggy isn't it?

Keep in touch Scotty and thank you for your help.

Today we got 50 pounds of seed potatoes.

They are the Red Pontiac which are the red potato that is so delicious and easy to Baked, boiled, mashed or fried, or cook with. I think they originate from Canada. They will be planted tomorrow! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Below is a few places you can read about them:

Some comments on Red Pontiac Irish Potato

Top-notch mashing potato! Red Pontiac Potatoes produce solid tubers with thin red skin, shallow eyes and crisp white flesh. Midseason to late maturity. A good keeper--has long-lasting quality. Does extremely well in heavy soils.

Stays firm and hold shape during cooking. Stores well. Suitable for any climate. Does well in heavy soils. May dig large or small. Fertilize at planting time.

I planted a half acre of Merit sweet corn last saturday, cost me about 12 dollars for seed and I probably used 50 cents worth of diesel. I usually turn off about 400 dozen and sell most, freeze some and give away to friends. I sel it for 2 dollars a dozen and some of the people I have gave it to wants it pulled and brought to them. Old person, I don't mind but an able body I figure if I go that far they may want it cooked next time. I have 4 wells on different properties that I wish I could give you because I'm gonna have to fill em in eventually. They are hand dug and host plenty of water but I have city water and the wells are in my way. I am gonna convert some of my garden into goat pasture this year, its just too much blame work. I have about an acre that I'll keep to plant just because I like watching things grow. In all reality, I think you can buy local produce from farmers cheaper than you can grow it if you count your time especially. You have to like doing it. That sounds like a heck of an irrigation system for an acre and a half. Well drilling must be very expensive. Good luck on your garden.
