( I planted a half acre of Merit sweet corn last saturday, cost me about 12 dollars for seed and I probably used 50 cents worth of diesel. I usually turn off about 400 dozen and sell most, freeze some and give away to friends. I sel it for 2 dollars a dozen and some of the people I have gave it to wants it pulled and brought to them. Old person, I don't mind but an able body I figure if I go that far they may want it cooked next time. I have 4 wells on different properties that I wish I could give you because I'm gonna have to fill em in eventually. They are hand dug and host plenty of water but I have city water and the wells are in my way. I am gonna convert some of my garden into goat pasture this year, its just too much blame work. I have about an acre that I'll keep to plant just because I like watching things grow. In all reality, I think you can buy local produce from farmers cheaper than you can grow it if you count your time especially. You have to like doing it. That sounds like a heck of an irrigation system for an acre and a half. Well drilling must be very expensive. Good luck on your garden. )
Well drilling here is $5.00 a foot for dry hole and $9.00 a foot for a wet hole. Probably will have to go 450 plus feet. Then there is the pump, wiring, all the plumbing for the irrigation system and then all the sprinkler heads. The type of irrigation system will be determined by the gallons per minute the well produces as will the pump needed. Thanks for the thoughts and good wishes. Everything is higher here now since the fuel prices went up... I knew it would eventually trickle down to other things.
By the way... food is expensive here since Winn-Dixie and some of the other food chains closed. Even Wal-Mart Super Center has went up on it's food costs. A lot of grocery stores throw away enough food weekly to feed a huge army. They won't give it to needy people most of the time because of fear of a lawsuit. But that's another subject I won't get into here.
Have a Great Day.
