First Serious Project - Clearing 1.5 Acres

Jim,
The tree should not cause too much damage if you cut it into small enough chunks that you can carry away by hand. The only mess will probably be from your foot prints in the mud. If you get it off of the grass soon it should be ok.

Yeah... like I said as soon as it gets dry enough to walk in there. I am serious... it is mushy enough that just my weight od 172 lbs. will cause you to sink ankle deep or more.

That is a dangerous situation for operating a chain saw as well. You just can't move quickly in that type of environment. We also have several more inches of rain coming tonight and all day tomorrow. Could be that we get more trees down because of the high winds we are getting from Tropical Storm Tammy. It's already raining again tonight and suppose to all day tomorrow and half a day Saturday. It may take a week or so for it to dry enough to safely remove the tree.

Here is the root system of the tree where the wind uprooted the tree.

Jim,
I had to remove 4 downed trees with root balls about that size with my JD 2010. I cut the tree trunk down to a stump that was about 4 feet long, used a shovel and anything else that would work to remove as much dirt as possible from the roots to make the load as light as possible. I was able to drag the root balls to my burn pit for Winter burning.
Good luck with the mud and rain. I do not envy you.

What size is your JD in Horsepower?

I wish my tractor was back and repaired. I could go down on my neighbors property and access the wood from tree by bringing it out with the FEL rather than try and get my truck down there.

It will be ok... It could be much worse. I just hate to lose all that time in dealing with it and having to re-seed some of the area. I have a lot of labor and money tied up in this Truck Patch Garden. I don't mind the investment to help others but I really don't like to have to re-chew my cudd LOL... you know do the same job over. My money is getting low and I have to provide for my family as well. Seems like when I think I can get back to work and make some money something always happens to make me invest more time and money into this project. I can only do so much... too bad I am not a millionaire... I would do this full time and not work except to make this project continue to help others.

By the way... I saw my attorney today and I am setting up a Non-Profit Organization with a Tax Exempt Status so that I can accept donations to this much needed project and the people and corporations/businesses that make donations will be able to make a 100% write-off on their taxes. Maybe this will allow me to help more people in our country as this project grows. I hope one day this will be a organization that will be able to help people through out the United States.

Jim,
My JD should be 45 hp but #4 cylinder is passing a little oil causing the spark plug to foul so I figure that I have about 35 working hp. I have a little trouble going up hills with a load but it will do pretty much what I need to do on my small hunk of land.
Good luck on the non-profit venture and getting rid of your neighbor's tree.

Farwell,

If I was up there in Michigan I would rebuild that engine for you. It would bring here back like new.

Sounds as if the rings are stuck or worn on that cylinder. Could be that there is only a valve seal leaking above the piston.

Have you tried a one range hotter plug on that cylinder? That could help that cylinder burn off the oil and not foul out on you. It would be a quick fix or temporary fix. Maybe even a two ranges hotter plug but no more than that. Let me know what you try and how it works for you.

Jim,
The next range hotter plug was recommended to me earlier today by a family member and now you suggested the same thing so I am going to give it a try. It has been a while since I rebuilt any engines (actually 30 years or maybe a little longer). Tractors are a little different than a pick-up and cars, depending on how deep the work goes. I have the tools and probably the ability but not sure that I have the desire. I am going to try all the easy fixes prior to a rebuild.
Thanks for the offer.

I have had many questions on why I am doing this. My first answer to this is I feel that God has led me to do this project. I think the following lyrics to this song will explain it the best. Rather that post the Lyrics I will post the following website so you may see the lyrics and understand. May God Bless each and everyone of you.

Hello everyone. I found a gentleman that will build CUSTOM Trailers to your specifications. He is VERY Good and builds Heavy Duty Trailers.

He is donating a trailer to us to transport our tractor for this project. I am also building him a website. I wanted to share this information with you. It will be a much better website as I build it but he wanted it up ASAP.

Here is the link for you to check out. Trail 'R Tow Trailers

I built this site temporarily for him until I could get the actual site built and tested.

Here's a Sneak Peak at the NEW Web Page I am building now. It has a long ways to go but this is part of the foundation.

A Sneak Peak of the New TRT = Trail'RTow Trailers Website - Just the start of the Foundation

Please let me know your thoughts & suggestions... for and against the appearance and such. Thanks.

I believe if you needed a trailer or even a Custom made Trailer... Grady would be a good choice. I know I can trust to build a "Quality Trailer" even though they are many great trailer builders out there. Maybe you could as well.

By the way... he does wholesale and retail sales.

If you do contact him... please tell him you heard it from Jim Bonham. Thanks.

Jim
