Ok... I was told by someone that has been farming for over 50 years. They said to put two toothpicks as close to the squash stalk as I could. directly across from each other. Theory being that if cut worm can't reach around the entire stalk... they won't cut it. They said it worked for them so I have tried it. Has anyone else heard of this method? Has anyone else tried this method?

I just use a can with both ends cut out.

Please elaborate on this method. Do you put the can on just after they come up or do you split it and put it on. Interesting method. I would like to learn more.

I put the can on as I plant the seedlings. It is not split.

Mornin Jim,
I realize that you and Egon are talking about squash plants and cut worms, but I use coffee cans that have the bottoms cut out next to all my tomato plants. I partially bury the can next to the tomato plant, and when I do water them I make sure to get water in that can. It helps in getting water to the roots. I know your doing a large number of plants so that may not be possible. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
