Snow First snow fall of the year

Awww...now you've gone and made me miss my old Cub 123 and 1450. The 1450 with the single stage Thrower would really move some snow if you could keep it revved up. Will I miss those 10 degree, 4am, 20 mph wind, no cab, snow-suit, motorcycle helmet, freezing by behind off days....no. But man those old cubs were good to me for a long time. Since replaced by a BX2200, cab, snower thrower, heat, lights, wiper.... I remember when I was young and tough :)

Cab? Heat? Wiper?

Oh, pl-ease!

*Real* men still dress up like the Michelin man and freeze while clearing the driveway.

It drives the women wild.

Jay, still waiting patiently (sort of) for that first good snow in Maine!

Sugar beets were done before we got this storm. Rumour was the processing facility in Marysville Michigan was not taking anymore.

We only got a couple of inches of snow here. Tried the blower, but not enough snow and it was so light the blower picked up more gravel than snow. Since I don't have the blade yet and did not feel like putting on the rear blade I just pushed the snow off with the bucket. From my short experience with the blower I assume I will be using the blade 90% of the time with the blower used only to move piles back.

My better half was quite happy with me this morning after I cleared the 14" we got overnight in central Nova Scotia. It was wet and heavy underneath and hard to plow with the ground not frozen yet. I'll have a few sods to replace when this melts. Sorry, camera's broke, so no proof. The only cab I have is my insulated coveralls and those ice pellets were hard on the eyes this morning for a while.

Sure, after you select "Post Reply" scroll down below the message box and click on "Manage Attachments", that will open up another box where you can browse and select the picture(s) you want to update (there's a limit of 4 - and there is a size limitation). Then click upload and when you post your message the thumbnails will be attached.

Looking forward to more pictures of folks having winter fun!

Jay

You want snow, here's your "blinkin" SNOW! When I went out to hunt it was 6" above my knees. It all arrived in the matter of about 6 hours.

Over Monday through Friday we received 33 inches of new snow here in the central UP of Michigan and I have snow blowed three times. Actually 9 times if one counts the people that I am helping out.

My neighbor and his wife across left for Florida on Nov 14th and I agreed to clear his driveway. I went over to check out the situation before we had any snow to see if anything would be in my way. We were saying based upon the forecast that it didn't look like there would be anything for me to do. So Monday and Tuesday we had 15" of snow here. I cleaned out both drives.

I have an acquaintance who lives about 2 miles from me who has leukemia and his wife is a teacher and is struggling with everything, so I told her I would clean their driveway. This one is tricky because it has a fairly steep grade at the beginning, but it is paved. I didn't see the driveway until there was a foot of snow and the wife told me that there were rocks lining the driveway. For a snow blower that is a problem.

I found that I couldn't snowblow up the driveway, the tires would just slip, but I could get up the driveway and snowblow down the drive. So despite my care and having the wife give me a little guidance, I managed to break 2 of the 3 shear bolts hitting a rock, which means you are on your back on the ground trying to replace these bolts - a nasty job.

The snow was absolutely incredible Thursday. My driveway is 400 feet long and my neighbors is 1,000. It was snowing hard enough at times that I could not see more than 100 yards. I went out and did my drive and my neighbors (about a foot of new snow). Then I take off to the friend with leukemia's house and that is when it starts snowing really hard. It was quite beautiful. The tractor can only go 10 mph, so I sat back and enjoyed the scenery. After I cleaned the driveway of the foot or so of new snow, I did it again as there was a new 3 in about 30 minutes. I redid my neighbors (6 new inches) and then mine 8 new inches and as I got off to clean up the tractor I saw that a bunch of snow had built up on one of the augers and realized I had broken another shear pin - the one I didn't break my first day.

By the time I replaced that shear bolt we had another 3" of snow.

So Friday I went out and cleaned up the balance of the snow at all three places with no more trouble. The sun was even out at times.
