I have been reading alot on different forums and feel that this one has the best thing going.
I am looking at a Case or NH in 35 or 40 hp, hydrostatic transmission.
I will be using it with a 72-84 finishing mower, not purchased yet, still shopping.
I will be taking care of 6 acres, recently lazer leveled, plan to
plant common bermuda, personal driving range!
Ok, first question - I have been told that the Case and NH or both made out of the same factory now, and basically or the same tractors, but everyone is buying NH, something about the color. Please inlighten me on this matter.
I got a couple of prices locally, Louisiana. NHTC 40DA I think
was the model number in 4WD. 18900 to 19600, without tax
or any attachments, is this a fair price.
Also leaning towards either a Rhino or Woods or Landpride
in 84", can a 35 hp handle this or should i stick with 40 HP.
Thanks for replys. :

The NH models were first introduced by NH and then later when NH and Case merged into CNH, it was only natural that Case picked up the same models since they did not have a compact tractor line. The D and DX models are the same as the NHs but with red paint and a different front light style. Also the Case tractors do not have the SuperSteer feature the NHs offer as an option.

All pricing will be close, but Case dealerships may or may not be competitive depending on their local costs and required margins. I'd suggest finding comparable tractors and then make your decision based on price and, most importantly, the quality of the dealerships. A great price from a dealership that can't support you is not as good as a fair price from a great dealership. The prices you quoted seem fair to me. I'd try to make the best deal on that tractor below $19,000. If you add a loader, it will bring the price up almost another $4000, but there is no better time to add a loader than when you buy the tractor. That way the dealer can order a "loader ready" tractor from the factory and save you a few dollars. If all the loader hydraulics have to be installed by his shop, most likely the cost will be as much as $500 more. Just a thought. . .

Good luck with your purchase. Have you test drove the Case and NH tractors? Driving both and talking to the dealers is the best advice I can offer. That way you will discover which dealer you think fits your needs the best. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks for the response. No i have not test driven any tractors, plan to do this next week. I have both a NH and Case
dealerships near by so i will be looking at service and salesmanship.
I am still not sure what tractor i need verses what i think i want.
I am going to get a 84" finishing mower, no smaller!
I will be maintaining 5 acres reguarly with the tractor and
basically thats all i want it for. But I leaning towards more
HP for possibly utilizing the tractor for more, even considering
a backhoe attachment. Family already has a front in loader
at my disposal.
Do you think 40HP is overkill for the 84" mower and what size would you choose in the NH,Case, Bota, will be buying one of
the three.

If your primary use is going to be mowing with a 7' finish mower, I think you could drop down to a 29 or 33 hp tractor. The issue with the DX40 / TC40DA is that they weigh about 3500 lb. Add the weight of the mower and you have a 4000 lb machine on your lawn. I think I'd be trying to save all the weight I could.

Don't get me wrong. The 40 hp tractor is a great machine and with turf tires, it will do the job nicely. I just don't know how plush your lawn is and how often you will mow it. If you want that laser levelled ground to stay flat, you have to consider the tractor's weight. If you mow often, I think the smaller tractor will do fine. If you let the grass get pretty high or it's a little rough, the larger tractor would be my choice. Either tractor can have a backhoe, but the larger tractor will give you the best results for sure.

Everything's a tradeoff it seems, but if you keep checking and asking questions, you'll eventually be able to make the best decision.

BTW: There is nothing against posting in this Case forum, but you might find more responses if you post in Kubota, New Holland, or the general forums for a question as general as this. I think you'll get lots of good ideas.

...and welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the advice and information. Reading all of the
discussions has been so informing.

We have both a D40 and DX45 with 72" finish mowers and power is not an issue. It easily ran a 90" finish mower my brother had also. There are two choices for turf tire options for these tractors. Our DX45 has the 18" wide turfs, which gives excellent all around use, but there is also a wider 22.5" turf special rear tire available, which is not recommended with a loader as the higher tire pressures required for the additional loads wipe out the low pressure advantage, especially on the front tires. One caution is there was a narrower front turf tire which was 8.5" wide. The wider front tire is 10/5" wide and is a better choice for floatation. I have the narrower front tire and it will cut in while the rear tire stays afloat, when the loader and counterweight is installed.

Hope this helps.

When I traded in my Kubota, I looked at New Holland tractors since this dealer sold both brands. I ended up buying a Case IH becuase they were $3000.00 less than the New Holland. I did not care about the color or wich one was more popular. The Case IH dealer is 75 miles east of me and the New Holland dealer was 65 miles west of me so the mileage was a wash.
