Yeah, but I bet you've never poured bar oil into the fuel tank.

Only about a dozen times but always caught the mistake before firing up...until a month ago, new top handle saw, first fill up, won't fire, off to dealer, told me "oil in the gas' and he hadn't even looked at it. He was right.

Yep, pretty sure I've done that. ...or was it gas into the bar oil tank?

I've done the backwards chain thing plenty of times, but always caught it before sawing.

Also done the:
"Why isn't this starting?! It usually starts on 2nd pull." Twenty pulls later: "Gee it might start better if you turn the switch on!"

and the:

"Dang this drill bit is REALLY dull. I can hardly get it to make a mark, let alone drill a hole!" followed by the "Oh! Who's the dang fool that left the drill running in reverse?!" followed by "Oh, that would be me."

I also have a weed trimmer that the carb lever is marked 1-2-3. With '1' being the full choke (start) position, '2' is 1/2 choke, & '3' being the open choke (run) position. I guess this makes sense, but for whatever reason, every time I go to start it I think the starting "countdown" should be 3-2-1. Right? Twenty pulls later I figure out how to count to three! Everytime!!

Here's another first for me. Have never had this happen before but now it's happened three or four times this year. I back under hay trailer. It's not the perfect spot but I know I can shove the trailer and get it to fall on the ball. Done this a million times. But this time as the trailer touches the ball it latches itself. Too many cranks later on jack I finally noticed it. Jack it back up. Try again. Same result.

My next door neighbor had an old house, built in 1852. They had carpet installed in one of the rooms and the door would not open or close so he had to trim it. I am out mowing the yard and walk over to see what is is going to do...First thing is to take another drink of that bourbon and water. Then he trims about 1/8th off the door.

Short time later it comes out, fresh drink, carrying the door and trims off 1/8th

repeat

repeat

etc

etc

I hear wife screaming at him, door still won't open or close but you can now see into the other room looking at the top.

Now - THIS is funny!!!

Reminds me of the time I installed a clothes rod in the closet. Measured twice, cut once and it was exactly one foot too short.

I do put blades on backwards, to cut siding.

So I'm coming across the bottom field and hit a bump and the ATV stops cold -- an ironic choice of words given that it was 95 degrees. I tried to restart until the battery was weak. Tried the pull cord so much that my middle knuckle swelled [and is still a bit bigger than it should be]. So ringing wet with sweat I walked up the long hill to the garage and got the other ATV to tow it home. Hot, wet, and tired I went on line to see if anyone had any advice.

Everyone quickly responded that I should check the kill switch. Kill switch? What's that? Never heard of it. Turns out its at the bottom of the handlebar and when I hit the bump I hit the switch. Never noticed it before but it was a lesson I've never forgotten.

Wow. You guys are all idiots! I've NEVER done ANY of these things [SUB]more than 10 or 12 times each...[/SUB]! :D I put on a tablesaw blade backwards when I was a teenager and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't cut for sheit. I was used to circular saws, and thought it went the same way (and very inexperienced of course). Got my dad and he tried cutting the wood (it was ash so he first thought it was tougher than the pine he had cut before - not a real mechanical guy). Same result. Much smoke, lots of effort, little cutting, much burning. A few minutes and he caught on. Still hasn't stopped me from doing it again on other stuff. I don't think I have ever put in a TS blade backwards again, but I sure have with circular saws and chainsaws. Now of course, it takes about 2 seconds to go DUH! stop, and flip it. I think I did it on a chainsaw twice. Learned to triple check that one... Haven't mixed up bar oil and gas...yet...

Dang I made it this long but y'all got me worried it's gonna be a continuing dilemma.

Most people don't know but you just hit the reverser switch and the chainsaw will run backwards.;)

Yeah I've put the chain on backwards, and yeah they don't cut so good.

I am confused with all this talk of oil and fuel. I didn't think it really mattered which direction the chain was put on. Just set the brake and then it is just a matter of whether the saw is cutting on the push or pull stroke. When that section of chain gets dull release the brake to bring up a fresh section on chain ;)

All you have to do is start the engine backwards and cut the tree while looking in a mirror upside down.
