I think it's pretty much common knowledge that John Deere is top-of-the-line when it comes to farm equipment. If you ask the general public what name they think of when it comes to farm equipment, my guess is the vast majority would say John Deere.

So in your logic, just because deers has more name recognition than another brand.. that immediatly makes them top of the line? Deere is a licensing 'ho'.. it will stick it's logo and name on any piece of merchandise known to man, if it can get a cut of the profits.

I like haveing tractor branded merchandise to a degree.. but some stuff takes it into the ridiculess.

With your logic of name recognition = superior quality.. I'd like you to explain the walmart situation???

name recognition does not equal quality.. it means that someone in marketing is doing thier job. Marketing and quality are by no means ratio-locked.. we've all seen well hyped items that turn out to be worthless.. enron stock comes to mind here...

It's not just about name recognition. Obviously, the most popular doesn't mean the best. But it is about heavydutyness, reliability, ergonomics, dealer network, parts availability, and resale value. And IMO, Deere tractors win in all those categories.

The JD products are fine machines, no doubt, but suggesting that (in the CUT segment) that they are accepted as being far superior to the rest is not true. I work for a large municipality in Ontario, Canada. When I was looking for a CUT, I asked one of parks managers for his recommendation. He advised that I should go with Kubota - and this was not just an opinion, they backed it up. I wasn't aware of this, but when our municipality goes out for tender for our parks maintenance contracts, they specify that the contractors use Kubota equipment. Contractors that use equipment other than Kubota are not disqualified, but are required to keep additional units on hand to ensure minimal down time.

I almost bought a JD, and they are very good machines. I think that the Kubota's (CUTS and mowers etc. at least) are designed for a different user.

Lordy Jackster; a plethora of information to dig thru to find what applies to you before you can use it for information.

For agriculture machines take a drive and see what the farmers are using. That will give a good indication of what makes a profit for them.

For smaller tractors that method may not work as these machines are used for a different purpose by an owner that has different demands. There are quite a few different brands that would meet your needs.

But for the original question; any you have listed would probably be a good choice.:D :D :D

Any of the major manufacturers are going to make some good machines. In one model, a New Holland might have the edge due to a certain design feature. In another, Kubota might be the machine of choice. Depending on the application, Mahindra would be the better value. Then there are other makes like the Antonio Carraro that has a package none of the other makes build.

If I were buying an open station 65 ~ 70 hp MFWD tractor, I would purchase a Kubota. To me, it is the best features at the best price. But once I opted for a cab, the John Deere became my choice. To make a blanket statement that JD is the best above all others is just not true.

I would take my XMark 0-turn mower over a John Deere any day. :D

I doubt most people would pick a Kubota or New Holland over a John Deere if the price was exactly the same. But anyways, that's just my opinion.

I guess I am not most people. I chose Kubota when I bought my B3030 recently. If the "equivalent" Deere had been priced the same (it was more expensive), I would have still bought the Kubota.

I am an Engineer, and looking at both machines, based on my own metrics, the Kubota was overall the better machine. Don't get me wrong, the Deere was nice, and even had a few nice features that I preferred, but overall I like the decision that I made.

And besides, it drive's my neighbor nuts (die-hard Deere fanatic)!!

I drive by him and give him the thumbs up while pointing at my Kubota hat. We either gives me thumbs down, or waves me away!!

Doesn't get much better than that!!

:D

In our area, North East Conn, the mid size farmers are almost all using Ford / New Hollands. Coudl possible be because Deere has such lousy dealers in this area.

Neil...how do you figure that most of the JD equipment of late is built by someone else and just has their name on it?!?! You may use that in your daily sales pitch but it is just not true.

I love these boards but some of you guys just spill things out there without even knowing the truth...all it takes is a little research...and how did things get so off topic...

Andy, if that is what they are using that's what works best for them in the profit picture.:D :D :D

I agree. And I guess part of that profit picture is the fact that we have excellent New Holland dealers and so so Deere dealers.
New Holland parts support is excellent as far as I can see. In stock or 1 day for most everything I need.
