Tractor
JD 4100
I have to start off by saying that I kwow nothing of tractors and was very nervous buying this one used with no experience. It is a 1999 JD4100 HST with 500hrs. It has the 54"MMM and 47" snowthrower.

Is there anything I should do as soon as I get it? Is there anything I should not do? Anything to look out for with this model? Any mods that should be done to increase reliability?

Should I have it brought to the shop for a once over before the start of the season? The previous owner did the maintenance himself, and kept a service log. He says it is up to date and ready to roll.

Congrats on purchasing a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
If previous owner has a maintenance log and you feel confident that it is true. Then continue with the JD recommended maintenance.
Did you get the owners manual? It will have lots of valuable information on how to use and maintain tractor, snowblower and mower. There should be a manual for each attachment.
I'm not sure if the manuals are still available on JD's site. When I tried to access their manual it had a message that site was not working.
Have you checked out
JD's site yet?
Of course we will want pictures. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If it were me, I'd bring it in for the 'once over', oil change, etc. It's short money. Not only will it put your mind at ease but will make you a paying customer at the dealership - never a bad thing when you stop by & have questions, need advice, etc. I'm relatively new to my area so I've stopped by my dealer and brought donuts! No work being done but then I can hang out for a bit and hear all the latest local dirt, er news, and get some tidbits about the tractor world too.

I would take it in just to put your mind at ease.Just have em look it over but dont write em a blank check to start picking it apart.

Congrats on the 4100!!! That's a nice model. I'm sure you will get a lot of service out of it. Most definetly make regular visits to the Deere site for up to date info.

A look over by a local dealer is not a bad idea, if you feel comfortable with them after an initial visit. However, if you are going to do your own service now might be a good time to check the availabilty of shop manuals and get started servicing your machine.

Regarless of what you decide, you will have your tractor and a ton of fun.
