Hello,

I am still looking for my first compact tractor (c 35 hp) and more viewings are coming up.

A question which is now playing on my mind is the rear spool valves (as I think they are known) at the back above the three point hitch. How many does one need ideally? I was only looking for one as a minimum originally. I assumed that it would be useful for a tipping trailer. However, I have it in my mind that over time I shall want various attachments. I am now seeing compact tractors where some have one , some have two and some have more.

Ultimately, the questions are:
What are they used for and how many does one need?

Background info:
Small equestrian place where the tractor would be used for
  • Muck heap management using a FEL
  • Tipping trailer
  • Harrowing the dung
  • a bit of rolling
  • a bit of post knocking
  • Topping with a flail or topper/disc mower (bushhog?)
Thanks!

I spec'd (2) rear remotes, and (1) front 3rd function on the tractor I bought 9 years ago. I should have spec'd (3) rear remotes.

The implements requiring hydraulic remotes I use are:
Flail ditch mower (requires 2 remotes)
Hydraulic toplink (1 remote)
Snow blower (2 remotes)
Rear blade (1 remote)
Front snow plow (3rd function front)
(Don't have one, but a grapple also uses the front 3rd function)

I can make do with 2 rear remotes, but I have to swap the hydraulic toplink out for a manual toplink, which is less than ideal. Once you've used a hydraulic toplink there is no going back!!!

My Kioti has two sets of remotes, I use one set for hoses I ran to the front for my grapple, and the other set for my backhoe and future post hole auger or other attachments. I'd say this would be the minimum for the average user. I avoided the expense of adding a 3rd function this way. It depends on what tractor you buy and how easy the rear remotes are controlled, the Kioti controls are easy to operate without a 3rd funtion.

If the tractor has one rear remote, you can add an electric over hydraulic multiplier to expand one remote into four or more depending on what you want to do. Each remote would then be selected by an electric switch and operated by one hydraulic lever. An example of this would be if you want to run top and tilt cylinders and an offset rear flail mower that requires two remotes to operate two hydraulic cylinders. This is a less expensive way to add multiple rear remote functions.

Tractorable I never heard of that. But it’s good to know. Would this come from the dealer or maybe Agco or Tractor supply? Thanks in advance sir
