fitting out workshop?

There are many magazines at Home Depot, etc that would help. Also, look up "The New Yankee Workshop" web site. "Norm" has his shop in there and you can look at it in virtual reality. It's been a while, but I think there may be an explanation as to whey he laid it out the way he did.

I have a suggestion about what to hang on the inside walls.
Framed 8x10 photos of the boys helping put it up.
As the years fly by I ocassionally find myself staring at the one's I have on my garage walls, after a few pints of course.
I'm not a sissy or a Nancy or anything like that, I just think it is a good idea to record the history of the building process for those that come after us.
All the best,
Martin

If you install fluorescent lights, make sure they are rated for cold weather use. I don't know about the situation over there, but here, the typcial unit sold as a "shop light" doesn't work well below 50F (10C, I think).

I second the comment about doors in both ends. That is what I have, and opening the second door on a hot day makes all the difference in the world. Er, do you have hot days in Ireland? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

SnowRidge,
Mine will work when it is really cold in my little barn but it takes them about 20 minutes to reach full brightness. I am hanging fluorescent in my pole barn and they are the industrial type with the heavy duty ballast, hope they work for me. I keep my well insulated pole barn at 47 degrees during the Winter, might have to turn up the heat. I am hanging tungsten lights directly over my work areas so I should be ok even if it takes a while for the fluorescent to light up.

Heat? What's that? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

My shop is a 1200 sq ft, uninsulated and unheated metal building. In the winter, the lights are noticeably dim and hum like the dickens. There are six of them, of the inexpensive persuasion, each with double 96" lamps, 12 foot above the concrete. Not exactly an ideal installation. Fortunately, four of the roof panels are translucent plastic, which helps a lot, although they don't do a whole lot at night. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Unfortunately, that's how the place came. Since we have some plans in the works that involve a different use for the building, I am foregoing the expense and time required to improve the lighting, at least for now.
