Got the deck and belts back on. Re-levelled the deck to the garage floor. It was off a bit. Adjusted the hanger brackets as one was "tweaked" from driving the deck into something, no doubt. Re-installed the hood and heat shield in front.

Both parts arrived in the mail. Alternator and regulator. Unfortunately, the alternator was NOT the correct one. #696459 instead the required #696457.

Ugh!!! Ladies and gentlemen, there will be a short delay. :(

The picture makes it look like a fairly new machine.

The picture makes it look like a fairly new machine.

Bird, it was built in 2005. That makes it six years old. Around 150 -200 hours, I believe. No meter.

Since the yard is a crisp, as we've had only one serious rain event in 3 months, the delay is more aggravating to me than to the better half.

The lack of rain is getting serious around here, too. The yards are nearly all looking bad. Of course, jinman has his own well, so his looks pretty good.

Nice project. Thanks for posting. Mind I ask what the parts cost?

The big heavy flywheel is due to it being a big single cylinder with OHV. Old sidevalves just don't have as much compression and could make do w/o so much flywheel. I highly recommend you put synthetic oil in it for durability since its aircooled.

BTW, is the rear axle a tufftorq 46? If so, you might want to do a search on TBN for it and drain and replace the oil in it.

Kyle, thanks. Yes, I'll run Rotella 5w-40 synthetic in it. I don't bother with having 6 different oils around for the equipment.

The stator/alternator lists for around $45. Not much cheaper anywhere, just a buck or two. A few places charge even more.

The regulator is around $40, with a few sites showing more, some less. Shipping isn't bad because these parts are not heavy.

Battery was on sale for $32.

Tufftorq 46- I assume so. Craftsman parts lists doesn't call it that. More research needed. If you have a link to an effective way to empty the fluid and re-fill, I'd like to see it. I've seen some who "suck" it the top and some who tap and drill a drain plug. Either way, I assume the seat and fuel tank need to be removed?

I have a Husquvarna with a 2 cyl Kawasaki motor. Had it for seven years and put my first new battery in it the other day. It has been a dream machine. My wife calls it her tractor as I have the CK30. I wish I had a shed with a floor like yours, mine is dirt...

OK, Finally time for an update.

After getting two wrong alternators (stator charging rings) shipped, seller errors, I finally got the right one.

It is a 9volt regulated type. Single black wire, with green connector. Should be simple, but there are alot of Briggs variants, but I ordered using the correct part #, so there shouldn't have been the screw ups.

Hottest day of the summer so far, heat index of 108 and I'm dripping sweat putting this thing back together.

Install the alternator. There are slight studs that need to recess into the block which is bored out for them. You gotta hold you mouth just right to get all of them recess down in there. Run the wire carefully through the wire clamp and chase of the oil dipstick holder.

Next put the flywheel back on. Ooops. It really choked with old grass and dust. Let's blow that out clean.

Magnets nice and clean, install flywheel, don't forget keyway, and drive it down.
