Just finished this project last week. I had this old New Idea Manure Spreader that I tried to use soon after buying and I kept breaking the chain. It sat for a few years, but then the manure pile started to grow and someone offered to help fix the spreader so my motivation blossomed. I was pretty sure I would have to buy a new chain or make one. It seems that new chains were like $900+ but the parts were like $350-400. I had already bought 10' of detachable chain a few years ago when I first used it so I really just needed 20' more plus the specialty links to weld or bold on the cross pieces. I bought 1-1/4" angle iron from Home Deeps - cut it to length and then welded it to the specialty links. My friend assembled the chain for me and another friend helped spread the manure.

Anyways, I video documented the whole thing so you can check it out if you like. I tried to snazzy up the video with some music and such so hopefully its entertaining.

It seemed to me that the cheapest place to buy was Shoup farm supplies.
