My knives got dull on both sides, but why??

I went to sharpen them for the first time, and found this. The backs of them are also banged up pretty good.

Mower seems to work fine, no strange noises. Always cuts good until the blades started dulling.

Just can't figure out what's going on with the backs of the blades getting dull and banged up.

The blades behind them are hitting them.

The Caroni knives are hardened steel and it is best to use a
wet well kitchen knive grinder to maintain them and avoid
ruining the temper on the cutting edges.

The other issue is simply the blade design.
The straight ground side slicers will dull more
quickly.

Its a real shame a a tapered side slicer for flail mowers is no longer stamped and ground.

The tapered slicing edge always prevents the opposing side slicer from becoming dull from impacting the flail mower rotor.
