I often run a 71" cut ditch bank flail,( weighs 1450#). As others have stated, there will be "pucker"
moments when flail is fully extended with the head down as in position to mow around a tank.
Go slow and pay attention. If the flail roller hits a bump and comes back down to position you
will definitely feel it in the cab, as the flail head will kind of bounce. I could have gone to a
bigger flail but I'm glad I did not. Your uses may vary from mine, but you have received some
good advice from from several folks on this thread.
Btw, just so you realize the power of a flail, not just the weight.....
I'm attaching a pic of a shovel one of my grandkids
left out in the middle of a field I was mowing with the flail. Cutting height was set at 6", a fairly
new shovel......Flail vs Shovel. One quick pass at 3.2 mph. No damage to flail or hammers.....
shovel didn't fair so well.
Good luck with your decision.
