If anyone is still folling me on this thread, I have a new question for ya'll.

Since I am going to just use a common 6206 and 6007 bearings, the inner part toward the cutter shaft that IS exposed, should I stick with the metal shield, or a rubber seal on the bearing?? I have both types.

I would use the metal shield. If any thing gets wraped around the shaft I think the metal shield would be tougher.

If an only if the clearances allow it use the "proper" lip seals facing the cutter shaft to seal the bearings and keep dirt and debris out.

Please check the rotor thouroughly for a part number plate welded to it to verify the rotor type.:thumbsup:

:confused2::confused2::confused2::confused2:

There are no lip seals. Just a bearing on a shaft. I was asking as to which would be better, shielded bearing(ZZ) or rubber seal (RS)

And what are you talking about with the rotor???

LD1,
I had a chance to purchase a flail mower in about the same shape. The shaft was actually fallen out because of the bearing coming apart. I could not locate a model on it or a brand etc. I passed at $100 because I was afraid I would just be stuck with it and no parts.

So I am reading your thread with intrest, but don't have any great knowledge to add. I am looking forward to a review!

Well, I got the bearings, and all the parts I need, but it will be awhile before I re-assemble.

I am going to tear it appart further, clean up, and re-paint the thing before she goes back together:thumbsup: Maybe a month or so before she's all done.

The mower "rotor" is the shaft that has the 4 rows of grass slicer hangers and grass slicer knives.

On many large parts the ID tag is quite often welded to the part after the numbers for the part have been stamped upon it(the tag) .

Just be sure of the parts installation sequence as you may have been saddled with someone elses version of "Maintenance" and there is no point in "making a mistake twice".

Flailmaster e-mailed me a parts diagram, as well as looking at replacement parts on various sites comfirms that there are NO seals. Just a bearing. The "seals/shields" I am refering to are the ones on the ball bearings themselves. And just wondering wether the rubber seal bearings OR the metal shield bearings are better for this application. Because I have them both:thumbsup:

As long as you dont blow the seals when greasing the bearings, the metal ones will be fine. you want very little new grease in the bearings 6-7 pumps at each mowing as they seal very well and you want to see very little new grease exit the bearings other wise the seal is blown totally.
