Flashlights

No where near as bright as the Stinger. Not even close. My friend bought the Twintask with 10 Leds and the center Xenon bulb. It was not that bright althought the light is very well made.

Gary,

Good question, there doesn't seem to be a easy conversion factor, since candlepower depends the beamwidth & illumination and lumens are illumination per area. Someone would need to test individual lights or the manufacturers would have to share the information. Lumens are usually used for LEDs since they are not a focused light, and candlepower for focusable incadensents (halogen, kyrton, zenon). Doing some searching on the net I have found 250-900 candlepower/lumens on a variety of flashlights.

Answering your question about the TwinTasker. The Streamlight operating the Zenon bulb pales in comparison to my Maglite 3-D with a Zenon bulb. The Maglite is very focused and projects a long distance, while the TwinTasker projection is uniform it never chokes down to a tight beam. The Maglite is rated at 28,000 candlepower and 42 lumens. The Twintasker is rated at 70 lumens. Although, I seeing spots right now, looking directly into each flashlight, the Streamlight's bulb looks brighter...I guess I'm done now. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I did call Streamlight after making my post.

They told me that the TwinTask at 72 lumens was about as bright as the Scorpian. I have a Scorpian and it's bright, but doesn't have a long range beam. They said it's not nearly as bright as the rechargable Stinger that I have.

I'm tempted to buy the TwinTask (3C) as a general purpose light. Something to use for checking the oil in a vehicle to finding your way through the woods. I think the TwinTask would be good for that.

I'd like to see how bright the Stinger HP is. There's a gun show here in the St. Louis area next Saturday/Sunday. A vendor who's there sometimes carries Streamlight, Maglight, SureFire... I'd be able to do a comparison on the "spot".

Gary,

I had a Polystinger (same as a regular stinger with a poly body) which I upgraded to an HP and was not impressed. The head is 3 times larger and the output is unimpressive in my opinion - and you can't carry it in your pocket. Now the Ultrastinger is another story - it has a great throw and a good runtime but its a little too long to be practical for carry but it make a good vehicle light! Another great rechargeable light is the Tigerlight - super tough - better throw than the Ultrastinger and available with a pepper spray option as well. Both the Ultra and Tigerlight are not daily carry light - thats what my Arc LS and Surefire E2E are for.

I have a SureFire. I think it's a 9P or 9N? Uses three lithium cells. I have the red flip lens on it and keep it in the car. Even with the red lens it's plenty bright at night.

I might order the Ultrastinger, or wait and see who's at the gunshow next week.

Have you been to the sights like firestore.com. I see that Streamlight has a few new additions or alterations to exisitng lights. Adding a LED or two as well as the XENON or Halgoen bulb. I realize the TwinTask has that, but its as though its a LED light with a Xenon bulb added to help in the longer distance uses. I prefer a rechargable for anything but the LED's, you will just burn the batteries up to quickly. Even the Lithium like the Scorpion has eats the batteries alive.

A *tiny* bit off-topic here, but my favorite flashlight is the NightStar http://www.nightstar1.com/ which never needs batteries or bulbs. You just shake it, and a magnetic arrangement charges it and powers the LED light in it. Not terribly bright, but it ALWAYS works. Leave it in the trunk of your car for 10 years, shake it for a few minutes, and you've got light. I keep one in the trunk of every car, etc. Waterproof, pretty much indestructible, and so on. Nice to have around.

Bob

p.s. Usual disclaimer.. no relationship with company.. just like the product.

( but I found a cheap alternative/improvement for your MagLite: A MagLite Zenon bulb to replace the OEM Kryton bulb. You can ugrade your Maglite for about $4.00, and you can get these bulbs at Home Depot. Your 4 D-Cell MagLite will go from 24,000 candlepower to 32,000 candlepower )

I did as you suggested over this past weekend & must say, a very noticable improvement and the $$ outlay wasn't too bad either.

I bit the bullet and ordered the Streamlight Ultrastinger as well as a TwinTask 3C cell light. The Ultrastinger's 75K CP. Should be brighter than my current Stinger at 15K.

I can hardly wait for Daylight Saving Time to end on Saturday night so I have more time to test flashlights.

This thread inspired me to order a new flashlight of my own. I just recieved (from Amazon) the Streamlight TwinTask 3C. It's a fun toy to add to my collection. My only complaint is that the Zenon bulb focus range is very small. It seems to be a very focused beam regardless of how I adjust it. But, that's ok because the LED lamps are there for the wide angle.
If you are not familiar with this light, it has LED's and a Zenon Bulb. You can switch on three LED's, six LED's, or the zenon bulb in the center.
