Flat Mode - Please Post Feedback

Greetings,

I have been thinking of switching to a flat-mode default viewing method over the past few weeks. Now with the message volume at what it is, I think viewing in flat mode would save a lot of time both loading and viewing messages. So, if you have a preference, please give me a yes/no vote here in this thread... and also any other comments you might have. Remember you could always set your default to threaded mode if you like it better.

Muhammad, what would be the difference between this change and us just changing the default in our profile (as I just did)? And then when I went to different messages, sometimes I got the entire thread in flat mode, and sometimes I didn't. I'm confused (not an unusual state of affairs for me)./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Anyway, I think I, too, would vote for the flat mode.

All searches, recent messages, etc, would be in flat mode.

YES, flatten it. Also shrink the heading on each block a little, eliminate a line and close it up so more responses fit on a screen. Is there some way to always get it to start at the top of a thread if you hit one of the responses?

We can change defaults to list more messages per page. But I will be changing the header as you suggested. As for jumping to the top of a thread, it does that now. I was going to look into changing it to jump to the message you click on, though.

I like the flat mode, and while I don't see it as any big deal, I think I'd prefer it jump to the message you click on instead of the top of the thread.

Ok, here is where the original reason I used threaded as the standard comes up. While I know I can have it jump to the correct post, the results in searches would not be in flat mode. The reason for this is, for example, if you had a thread with 50 posts in it, and a search result brings up #34, and you click it, if showing in flat mode at 25 posts per page, you'd see the first page, and would have to click to page 2 to see the message. And even then, it wouldn’t jump you to that message. So basically, you would be lost and nowhere near the message. So, searches would remain in threaded mode when you clicked a returned massage. And for the time being, until I re-create the entire new messages check section, those would be shown in threaded, as well, since those are basically complex searches.

But in any event I will try to get the 'jump to message' feature working before I switch to flat, and also the design changes. Seems like flat is the common vote.
