Flat Mode - Please Post Feedback

I will increase the number of messages to display per thread based on the average, once we switch to flat mode as the default. So, maybe 35, 40, maybe even 50 if there are enough messages in the average long thread. I will check stats to find out for sure.

I know I mentioned this before, but if Flat Mode could be sorted in reverse date order, everyone would see the most recent posts first. If I could do that, I'd change my default view to 5 posts or so, which would greatly reduce the bandwidth required and speed response time too. You could still go to other pages or click 'All' if you needed more.

Right, but that could only be an option... on the old forum we started with that and got plenty of requests to go to newest on bottom instead of newest on top. Newest on top works well for everyday visitors but we're outnumbered by those who don't visit every day, or even regularly.

I will try to get this to be an option that you can set in your profile, but I am completely unsure of the possibility of it being done or not at this time.

I usually use threaded mode, I know it takes longer, but I can read the posts in the order that I want. In the sub-threads (new word?) within a major thread, if read in flat mode you don't see them in the order that they belong. Is this the way it is or what? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

That's right, and why I originally set it to threaded mode. I will probably keep my default to threaded mode, but I will change the public viewing default to flat mode, soon. However, I originally thought that the searches would be changed to flat mode, but I checked into that, and those will still be threaded... this way, you will land on the exact message you clicked on, not somewhere in a thread. And also, if the thread has more than one page of messages, you would be put to the first page, nowhere near the message you are trying to get at if it was later in the thread.

So, while I agree that you might get 'lost' in the thread viewing in flat mode, I will change the default to flat and collapsed... as you guys wish! Jim, just keep it as threaded in your profile, you won't notice any change.
